Overview
Formally and informally, people live and work in organisations. Only through an understanding of the relevant individual, group and organisation dynamics will graduates be able to function effectively as leaders and managers. Moreover, when leading through change, it is critical that leaders understand the factors that influence the thoughts, feelings, motivations and actions of themselves and others in the workplace. In this unit students will explore tools necessary to build capabilities to effectively manage change. Students will engage in topics related to understanding self and others, organisational contexts and cultural perspectives, and leading change ethically through disruption. Learning in this unit will assist students in developing self-reflective managerial and leadership competencies needed to optimise individual, group and organisation dynamics, including effectively dealing with competing priorities in organisations.
Learning Outcomes
On successful completion of this unit you will be able to:
- Interpret and explain the dynamics of human behaviour in changing organisational settings and their impact upon organisational effectiveness using a range of research and technologies.
- Critically analyse major theories and models of organisational behaviour in relation to individual, organisational, and cultural contexts with a view to applying them to developing ethical leadership of change in organisational settings.
- Create and present proficient and specialised reports, both written and oral, using a range of presentation mediums and styles to meet the needs of a professional audience.
- Work with members of a team to evaluate and apply knowledge of ethical behaviour in analysing and addressing detailed organisational issue(s) identified by the team, and present this work to peers.
Content
The unit will cover topics related to people's behaviour at work, such as Understanding self and others, organisational contexts and cultural perspectives, Leading change ethically through disruption. This will help students to develop paradoxical thinking when dealing with competing priorities.

Learning Approaches
The unit seeks to introduce and build on basic concepts and theories of organisational behaviour, and relate these to practice and experience. The text book provides the basis of the concepts to be covered. Discussion groups will be used to consolidate and extend the basic material. Workshops and readings provide for advanced analysis and practical focus. Each session will focus on the pragmatic application of theories and models in work contexts, with learning activities engaging students via a range of participative activities, including in discussion-based learning, case studies, and interactive reviews of course content.
The QUT Business School seeks to create postgraduate learning environments that help participants better manage family-work-study conflicts. In this unit flexible delivery options are supported by educational technologies to allow you to participate in class remotely, and to connect you with others in the unit and with unit content.
This unit uses text authentication tools that assist students to develop the academic skills required to correctly use and cite reference material as well as to check citations and determine possible instances of plagiarism. Written annotation of three (3) journal articles related to an Organisational Behaviour topic (as approved by the lecturer) paying attention to the use of academic databases, each article's validity and utility, the reputation of the journal(s) in which these papers are published, the leadership of the authors and originality of contributions made by their research.

Assessment: Literature Review
Written individual review of the chosen organisational topic paying attention to relevant literature and ethical considerations. The paper should conclude with a section dealing with the practical applications of the conceptual material reviewed.

Assessment: Group Presentation and Individual Vlog
As part of a presentation team you will create a group presentation using technology offering practical information on leading ethically through change in a creative way. This topic is to be approved by the lecturer and needs to provide an ethical leadership response to a contemporary change challenge. The group presentation is to be shared with the class in Week 13 at the unit's 'OB Film Festival'. To enhance learning and focus on group team effectiveness, students are required (individually) to provide a reflective account of their experiences in their respective group team via a series of vlog (video log) posts to evaluate the effectiveness of your group throughout the semester (approximately 3 minutes of video per vlog post).

Overview
Formally and informally, people live and work in organisations. Only through an understanding of the relevant individual, group and organisation dynamics will graduates be able to function effectively as leaders and managers. Moreover, when leading through change, it is critical that leaders understand the factors that influence the thoughts, feelings, motivations and actions of themselves and others in the workplace. In this unit students will explore tools necessary to build capabilities to effectively manage change. Students will engage in topics related to understanding self and others, organisational contexts and cultural perspectives, and leading change ethically through disruption. Learning in this unit will assist students in developing self-reflective managerial and leadership competencies needed to optimise individual, group and organisation dynamics, including effectively dealing with competing priorities in organisations.

The unit seeks to introduce and build on basic concepts and theories of organisational behaviour, and relate these to practice and experience. The text book provides the basis of the concepts to be covered. Discussion groups will be used to consolidate and extend the basic material. Workshops and readings provide for advanced analysis and practical focus. Each session will focus on the pragmatic application of theories and models in work contexts, with learning activities engaging students via a range of participative activities, including in discussion-based learning, case studies, and interactive reviews of course content.

As part of a presentation team you will create a group presentation using technology offering practical information on leading ethically through change in a creative way. This topic is to be approved by the lecturer and needs to provide an ethical leadership response to a contemporary change challenge. The group presentation is to be shared with the class in Week 13 at the unit's 'OB Film Festival'. To enhance learning and focus on group team effectiveness, students are required (individually) to provide a reflective account of their experiences in their respective group team via a series of vlog (video log) posts to evaluate the effectiveness of your group throughout the semester (approximately 3 minutes of video per vlog post).
