Overview

This unit introduces you to the strategic perspective on human resource management and the growing use of
evidence based human resource decision making, such as HR analytics, to increase organisational effectiveness.
This unit explores how the core roles and functions of HRM, including recruitment and selection, learning and
development, and performance and reward management, need to be aligned with organisational strategy to
achieve business goals.

Learning Approaches

The learning approaches used in this unit encourage active participation by students. Activities may include exercises,
case studies, real-world examples, scenarios and group activities.



Feedback on Learning and Assessment

Students will receive feedback in various forms throughout the semester, which may include:

• Informal: worked examples, such as verbal feedback in class, personal consultation
• Formal: in writing, such as checklists (e.g. criteria sheets), written commentary
• Direct: to individual students, either in written form or in consultation
• Indirect: to whole class

Assessment

Overview

This unit requires written assessment items to be uploaded via a text authentication tool that assists students to develop the academic skills required to correctly use and cite reference material as well as to check citations and determine possible instances of plagiarism. You will be required to use this tool for Assessment Item 2 (Case Study). Using a text authentication tool is a part of the formal submission of assignments for this unit. Your Unit Coordinator will provide detailed information on how the software will be used for individual assignments. The use of the tool is for educative purposes and is also used for assisting markers in the detection of plagiarism.

Students may be required to attend campus or an assessment centre for the purposes of assessment, regardless of the attendance mode for the unit.

Assessment: Group Oral Presentation

Groups will prepare and deliver an oral presentation to analyse the approach to SHRM in a case organisation. Assessment will include Peer Review.

Assessment: Case Study

Students will analyse a case study on strategic human resource management and recommend HR strategies and analytics to address identified workforce issues.

This assignment is eligible for the 48-hour late submission period and assignment extensions.
