Overview
Digital Communication Advanced Project 2 is the second of two advanced research project units that supports you to finalise the project commenced in CCN311 Digital Communication Advanced Project 1 (Dissertation Milestones 1 and 2). It provides further opportunity to integrate and apply the advanced knowledge of digital communication theory, methods, principles and skills in the context of research and to professionally present the findings of your project.
Learning Outcomes
On successful completion of this unit you will be able to:
- Apply advanced research methods to a digital communication research project.
- Incorporate and respond to feedback into the execution of a research project.
- Synthesise and orally present project findings and recommendations.
- Apply academic writing skills to produce a research dissertation.
- Autonomously, professionally and ethically complete a research-based digital communication project.
Content
This unit will cover:
- refining research problems
- iteratively designing and scoping research projects
- applying appropriate methodologies
- collecting and analysing data
- integrating findings into the wider research and practice communities
- communicating and discussing findings
The nature of this content will vary depending on the specific characteristics and requirement of the approved projects.
Learning Approaches
This unit is taught via a blended approach that combines elements of face-to-face and online delivery and may include intensive delivery.
This unit primarily adopts a self-directed learning approach, where you are expected to execute a scholarly research or industry project. You will be allocated a supervisor who will provide regular individual or group consultations. A cohort-based workshop approach to project supervision will be undertaken, where you will meet regularly with your supervisor and to share your project progress and challenges, receive peer and supervisor feedback and to support the development of key capabilities required to successfully conduct your project.
Feedback on Learning and Assessment
You will be in regular contact with your supervisor who will provide you with feedback on your work. These regular meetings may be a combination of individual or group face-to-face or virtual meetings.
Mid-semester, you will be required to submit a draft of your progress to date. You will receive formative feedback from your supervisor on this draft.
Assessment
Overview
In this unit you will complete two assessment tasks:
1. Seminar Presentation - This task provides an opportunity to present the findings and outcomes of this project .
2. Dissertation Milestone 3 - This task expands on the project proposal to communicate findings and integrate these into wider research and practice.
Assessment 2 Final Project Report will be examined by two academics - one examiner external to QUT and a second examiner internal to the faculty but not the project's supervisor. The weighting of the Final Project Report reflects the scale of work involved in a research project.
Unit Grading Scheme
7- point scale
Assessment Tasks
Assessment: Seminar Presentation
You will present the findings of your research project in the form of a seminar. This presentation will be delivered live either in a face-to-face or virtual environment.
Assessment: Dissertation Milestone 3
You will produce a professionally presented and comprehensive research dissertation building on your Milestone 2 report, completed for CCN311. This Milestone 3 document will include materials, including your findings and analysis appropriate for your specific project as approved by your supervisor.
This assignment is eligible for the 48-hour late submission period and assignment extensions.
Academic Integrity
Academic integrity is a commitment to undertaking academic work and assessment in a manner that is ethical, fair, honest, respectful and accountable.
The Academic Integrity Policy sets out the range of conduct that can be a failure to maintain the standards of academic integrity. This includes, cheating in exams, plagiarism, self-plagiarism, collusion and contract cheating. It also includes providing fraudulent or altered documentation in support of an academic concession application, for example an assignment extension or a deferred exam.
You are encouraged to make use of QUT’s learning support services, resources and tools to assure the academic integrity of your assessment. This includes the use of text matching software that may be available to assist with self-assessing your academic integrity as part of the assessment submission process.
Breaching QUT’s Academic Integrity Policy or engaging in conduct that may defeat or compromise the purpose of assessment can lead to a finding of student misconduct (Code of Conduct – Student) and result in the imposition of penalties under the Management of Student Misconduct Policy, ranging from a grade reduction to exclusion from QUT.
