Assessment Tasks

Assessment: Business Proposal - Nonprofit or social enterprise

Many organisations (such as charities, nonprofits and social enterprises) are seeking to innovate how they resource or achieve, their mission. This necessitates a search for new revenue sources to supplement fundraising and philanthropy or raise revenue to fund innovative services and products. Alternatively they are looking for new ways of addressing social problems. One solution includes Social Enterprise which delivers both a financial and social return for stakeholders, as well as identifying innovative ways of funding and fulfilling social mission. This assessment requires students to develop a business idea that has a strong commercial and social value proposition. Students will use the Social Enterprise Business Canvas to articulate the idea and how this will meet a social and/or environmental need.

Assessment: Identifying a Management Problem and Solution

The purpose of this assessment is for students to identify and investigate a problem of interest and relevance for their professional for-purpose management practice.
The problem will be a specific issue or dilemma facing a for-purpose organisation whether that problem be located inside the organisation itself, in the external business environment, or at the intersection of the two.

The assessment will examine the problem using existing literature to identify the cause and effects of the problem. Then, a management theoretical framework will be used to explain a proposed solution to the problem. This solution will take into account issues such as the regulatory and institutional environment in which the enterprise operates. The solution should also be well grounded in socially and ethically responsible business behaviours.

Students are required to reflect on themselves as a manager of a for purpose organisation, and consider the different mindsets and skills required to explore problems and develop solutions in this type of organisation compared to for-profit or public sector organisations. Students must demonstrate their ability to talk about themselves and communicate their ideas to a professional audience.

Academic Integrity

Students are expected to engage in learning and assessment at QUT with honesty, transparency and fairness. Maintaining academic integrity means upholding these principles and demonstrating valuable professional capabilities based on ethical foundations.

Failure to maintain academic integrity can take many forms. It includes cheating in examinations, plagiarism, self-plagiarism, collusion, and submitting an assessment item completed by another person (e.g. contract cheating). It can also include providing your assessment to another entity, such as to a person or website.

You are encouraged to make use of QUT’s learning support services, resources and tools to assure the academic integrity of your assessment. This includes the use of text matching software that may be available to assist with self-assessing your academic integrity as part of the assessment submission process.

Further details of QUT’s approach to academic integrity are outlined in the Academic integrity policy and the Student Code of Conduct. Breaching QUT’s Academic integrity policy is regarded as student misconduct and can lead to the imposition of penalties ranging from a grade reduction to exclusion from QUT.
