Overview
In addition to the basic functions of management, the changing nature of managerial work emphasises the importance of facilitating, developing, and integrating the organisation's human, physical, and other resources. This unit examines current approaches to managing and leading, as well as the challenges of managing contemporary organisations in a steadily changing business environment.

The unit is designed to introduce you to the theory and practice of management in organisations. You are encouraged to relate the theories discussed to real-life examples and to take a critical approach to analysis. Interactive class meetings incorporate information and application activities. Each week's topic will be based on readings and activities indicated on the MGN409 Unit Canvas site. Before attending each class, you are asked to read and review the assigned chapter readings for that class.

Assessment: Management Audit Using the SWOT Framework
You will analyse and apply your understanding of the management theories covered during the semester to evaluate the management of the same organisation in assessment 1.

Learning Approaches
The unit is designed to introduce you to the theory and practice of management in organisations. You are encouraged to relate the theories discussed to real-life examples and to take a critical approach to analysis. Interactive class meetings incorporate information and application activities. Each week's topic will be based on readings and activities indicated on the MGN409 Unit Canvas site. Before attending each class, you are asked to read and review the assigned chapter readings for that class.
