Overview
Australia is situated in the fastest growing region in the world - the Asia-Pacific rim. Furthermore, Australia already works closely with many of the economies in the region and thus managers need to be fully prepared to manage in cultural different environments. This unit exists to inform future business professionals about business environments, how to identify risks and, from a hands-on perspective, learn best practices to address such risks within countries of this region.
Learning Outcomes
On successful completion of this unit you will be able to:
- Explain and apply a range of theoretical and practical perspectives on country and industry based development including theories of international business, strategy, risk assessments, sustainability, and social responsibility. [KS 1.1, SE 5.2]
- Identify and explore country-specific and regional opportunities threats and issues relating to the conduct of business across the Asia-Pacific region, including consideration of social responsibility perspectives, legislative systems, regulatory processes, corporate governance and business practices. Learning Approaches
The teaching and learning strategies applied in this unit are intended to maximise your involvement and engagement with the concepts that are being presented and to provide space for you to develop your thinking and skills in a supportive environment. The unit is designed to promote and assess your understanding of the concepts with a hands-on approach. Online material and selected readings will provide an introduction to theoretical concepts and this will be supported by weekly seminar activities. The seminars are designed to provide an interactive learning environment that focuses on the development of communication and analytical skills through planned learning activities, simulations and discussions.

Students will be provided with oral feedback on their performance in the unit through informal consultation with the lecturing and tutorial staff and in written form through the criterion referenced assessment system used in the unit.

Overview
The assessment in this unit aims to support the achievement of the learning objectives for both Discipline Knowledge and Other Graduate Capabilities for Assurance of Learning (AoL) Goals. Assessment has been designed in order to allow you to receive feedback on learning as you progress toward the development of knowledge, understanding, skills and attitudes (formative assessment); and demonstrate learning in order to achieve a final grade (summative assessment).
Students may be required to attend campus or an assessment centre for the purposes of assessment, regardless of the attendance mode for the unit.

Assessment: Business Plan Proposal
In this assignment, students are a senior manager of an existent local Australian firm (without an international presence - a pure exporter is not considered to have an international presence) and were asked to prepare a business plan for the internationalsation of the firm to an Asian country. Following the presentation of what a business plan is and should have, you are expected to write the business plan to be further approved by the board. At this stage you need to outline the company name, the proposed market of internationalisation, and ideally an entry mode and further strategy to operate on that market. Further details will be provided on Canvas.

This assignment is eligible for the 48-hour late submission period and assignment extensions.
Assessment: Group Presentation
In Assignment 2 students are required to present a project in a small group by taking on the role of a Senior Management Group appointed to provide a briefing to the CEO to prepare for an Asia Pacific roundtable meeting with senior government officials and industry/business representatives from Asia Pacific countries. Each group will present twice during the semester. The unit coordinator will indicate the topic. Further details will be provided on Canvas.

Assessment: Internationalisation Business Plan
This assessment follows on from Assignment 1. In Assignment 3 students are asked to prepare a business plan for the internationalisation of the firm to an Asian country. The country must be a developing economy, and cannot include Japan, Singapore, or South Korea. Following the presentation of what a business plan is and should have, you are expected to write the business plan to be further approved by the board. Further details will be provided on Canvas.

Overview
Australia is situated in the fastest growing region in the world - the Asia-Pacific rim. Furthermore, Australia already works closely with many of the economies in the region and thus managers need to be fully prepared to manage in cultural different environments. This unit exists to inform future business professionals about business environments, how to identify risks and, from a hands-on perspective, learn best practices to address such risks within countries of this region.

On successful completion of this unit you will be able to:

Learning Approaches
The teaching and learning strategies applied in this unit are intended to maximise your involvement and engagement with the concepts that are being presented and to provide space for you to develop your thinking and skills in a supportive environment. The unit is designed to promote and assess your understanding of the concepts with a hands-on approach. Online material and selected readings will provide an introduction to theoretical concepts and this will be supported by weekly seminar activities. The seminars are designed to provide an interactive learning environment that focuses on the development of communication and analytical skills through planned learning activities, simulations and discussions.

Students will be provided with oral feedback on their performance in the unit through informal consultation with the lecturing and tutorial staff and in written form through the criterion referenced assessment system used in the unit.

Overview
The assessment in this unit aims to support the achievement of the learning objectives for both Discipline Knowledge and Other Graduate Capabilities for Assurance of Learning (AoL) Goals. Assessment has been designed in order to allow you to receive feedback on learning as you progress toward the development of knowledge, understanding, skills and attitudes (formative assessment); and demonstrate learning in order to achieve a final grade (summative assessment).
Students may be required to attend campus or an assessment centre for the purposes of assessment, regardless of the attendance mode for the unit.

Assessment: Business Plan Proposal
In this assignment, students are a senior manager of an existent local Australian firm (without an international presence - a pure exporter is not considered to have an international presence) and were asked to prepare a business plan for the internationalsation of the firm to an Asian country. Following the presentation of what a business plan is and should have, you are expected to write the business plan to be further approved by the board. At this stage you need to outline the company name, the proposed market of internationalisation, and ideally an entry mode and further strategy to operate on that market. Further details will be provided on Canvas.

This assignment is eligible for the 48-hour late submission period and assignment extensions.
Assessment: Group Presentation
In Assignment 2 students are required to present a project in a small group by taking on the role of a Senior Management Group appointed to provide a briefing to the CEO to prepare for an Asia Pacific roundtable meeting with senior government officials and industry/business representatives from Asia Pacific countries. Each group will present twice during the semester. The unit coordinator will indicate the topic. Further details will be provided on Canvas.

The country must be a developing economy, and cannot include Japan, Singapore, or South Korea. Following the presentation of what a business plan is and should have, you are expected to write the business plan to be further approved by the board. Further details will be provided on Canvas.
