Overview
In this introductory unit you will explore how to design and manage productive work systems while supporting the people who deliver them. You will learn how organisational structures, job design, motivation and performance management practices interact to influence productivity. The unit examines the role of technology and generative AI in shaping contemporary workplaces and considers how leaders can foster engagement, equity and wellbeing alongside operational efficiency. Aligned with QUT’s Real World Learning vision, the unit uses case studies and organisational scenarios to help you develop practical skills for managing productivity and people in dynamic environments.

You will use digital tools and analytics to evaluate performance data and develop recommendations, building your confidence to communicate insights to a variety of stakeholders. Assessment: Case Analysis
You will analyse a case study that explores a productivity challenge within an organisation. Drawing on theories of motivation, work design, process improvement and ethical management, you will identify root causes and propose recommendations to enhance performance while respecting employee wellbeing. The task develops your analytical reasoning, ethical judgement and professional communication skills through applied analysis and report writing.
The ethical and responsible use of generative artificial intelligence (GenAI) tools is authorised in this assessment. See the relevant assessment details in Canvas for specific guidelines.
This assignment is eligible for the 48 hour late submission period and assignment extensions.

Overview
In this introductory unit you will explore how to design and manage productive work systems while supporting the people who deliver them. You will learn how organisational structures, job design, motivation and performance management practices interact to influence productivity. The unit examines the role of technology and generative AI in shaping contemporary workplaces and considers how leaders can foster engagement, equity and wellbeing alongside operational efficiency. Aligned with QUT’s Real World Learning vision, the unit uses case studies and organisational scenarios to help you develop practical skills for managing productivity and people in dynamic environments.

Learning in this unit is active and practice based. You will work through case studies, problems and simulations to explore how productivity can be improved without compromising employee wellbeing. Assessment: Case Analysis
You will analyse a case study that explores a productivity challenge within an organisation. Drawing on theories of motivation, work design, process improvement and ethical management, you will identify root causes and propose recommendations to enhance performance while respecting employee wellbeing. The task develops your analytical reasoning, ethical judgement and professional communication skills through applied analysis and report writing.
The ethical and responsible use of generative artificial intelligence (GenAI) tools is authorised in this assessment. See the relevant assessment details in Canvas for specific guidelines.
This assignment is eligible for the 48 hour late submission period and assignment extensions.
