Overview
Communication is central to organisational practice. Internal Communication and Change will provide theoretical and practical insights to equip students to identify, analyse, and respond to communication challenges in contemporary organisations.
Learning Outcomes
On successful completion of this unit you will be able to:

Content
Internal Communication and Change introduces students to the practice of public relations in an organisational setting, examining and evaluating specific content areas including internal communication and change communication; stakeholder relationships; organisational culture; corporate social responsibility and ethical decision making; digital tools and evaluating practice.

Learning Approaches
Content in this unit is delivered via a two hour lecture and a one hour tutorial each week. Lectures will involve discussions of the key concepts and theories underpinning public relations practice illustrated by reference to current cases and practice. Tutorials will focus on further discussions and applications of lecture content in real world situations. Tutorial exercises will also provide support for assessment items. The combination of these teaching and learning approaches offers students the opportunity to be guided and supported in their achievement of the unit's aims and objectives.
This unit uses the Turnitin tool in Canvas. Turnitin is a text matching tool that assists students to develop the academic skills required to correctly use and cite reference material as well as to check citations and determine possible instances of plagiarism. You will be expected to submit draft and/or final versions of one or more assignments using Turnitin. Your Unit Coordinator will provide detailed information on how the software will be used in this unit.

Students will receive feedback in various forms throughout the semester which may include:
- Informal: worked examples, such as verbal feedback in class, personal consultation
- Formal: in writing, such as checklists (e.g. criteria sheets), written commentary

In response to an organisational change scenario, you will identify and justify, using academic literature, a suitable internal communication strategy.

This assignment is eligible for the 48-hour late submission period and assignment extensions.
Assessment: Report and portfolio
You will develop an internal communication program and associated portfolio to support a planned organisational change event.
Your portfolio will include five communication tactics:
1. 3 minute CEO speech (notes only) to a staff forum
2. 300 word article about the topic to appear in an internal digital staff newsletter
3. 2 minute video update (for staff to appear on internal website)
4. Four digital messages for staff (to reinforce key message as ie: screensavers)
5. Five Q&As about the topic (suitable for management)
