Overview
This honours level unit develops advanced knowledge and skills in one or more discipline areas. The unit will have an industry or research training focus to prepare you for a job in the real-world or for further studies. This advanced topic is designed to complement your studies in the Honours Research Project, Introduction to Research and Reviewing the Field units.
Learning Outcomes
On successful completion of this unit you will be able to:
- Develop advanced, in depth knowledge of one or more topics or techniques in a discipline (1-1).
- Critically evaluate, analyse, review and synthesise complex ideas and information (2-1).
- Apply critical and creative thinking and advanced knowledge in one or more disciplines in solving real-world problems displaying logical and sound judgement (2-2).]

The content of this unit will depend upon the chosen advanced topic.
Learning Approaches
The approaches to teaching and learning will depend upon the chosen advanced topic. Typically the learning will be context based, utilising examples from contemporary research and real-world applications. You will be expected to meet with teaching staff, either individually or as a group, to assist and direct you towards effective learning.
Feedback on Learning and Assessment
Feedback on formative and summative assessment items will be provided through meetings with teaching staff.
Assessment
Overview
Teaching staff will discuss with you the most appropriate strategies and milestones to be achieved throughout the semester based on your advanced topic. The assessment items will be such that the learning outcomes for this unit can be assessed.
The timing, weighting and type of assessment may change, depending on the advanced topic taught in any given semester. It is expected that the assessment will be both formative and summative in nature.

Assessment: Workbook
Compilation of a variety of artefacts that may include quizzes, problem-solving tasks, demonstrations, practical exercises and /or demonstrations
This is an assignment for the purposes of an extension.
Assessment: Examination (written)
This examination of your work may take different forms according to your discipline. The work examined may be an artefact, an essay, problem solving tasks etc and may take place in the field, in a laboratory, a take home assessment or a traditional examination room.
