Overview
Performance and reward management is a key functional area of HRM and is of critical importance in supporting organisations to maintain a competitive advantage. Therefore, it is imperative that you understand the strategic framework and the underlying psychological principles that maximise employee performance. This unit contributes significantly to your understanding of people management, your HR diagnostic skills and your ability to develop HR policies and procedures to support employee, managerial and organisational effectiveness.

Learning Approaches
The unit is delivered in the lecture/tutorial model. The lecture aims to be interactive, with the use of group activities and discussions. It provides time and space for students to relate to their own experiences, and ideally, share their thoughts and feelings with the rest of the class. The tutorial activities are designed to achieve the following two goals: to enhance learning on the content of the lecture and to provide support and guidance on assessments. The tutorials also serve to provide opportunities for interactions between students, creating a sense of team-based learning, where students provide informal and instant peer feedback to each other.

Students will receive feedback in various forms throughout the semester which may include:
- Informal: worked examples, such as verbal feedback in class, personal consultation
- Formal: in writing, such as checklists (e.g. criteria sheets), written commentary
- Direct: to individual students, either in written form or in consultation
- Indirect: to the whole class

Overview
You will complete three assessment items which are designed to assist you in developing your understanding of performance and reward management as a key functional HRM area and of its critical importance in supporting organisations to maintain a competitive advantage. The first assessment is an individual strategic intervention proposal focusing on improving current performance processes in a given organisation. The second is a reflection on your own experience carrying out performance management tasks and the third is group assessment where you will present a practical presentation to a focal organisation.
You will receive feedback on your learning as you progress toward the development of knowledge, understanding, skills and attitudes; and demonstrate your learning in order to achieve a final grade.
Students may be required to attend campus or an assessment centre for the purposes of assessment, regardless of the attendance mode for the unit.

Learning Approaches
The unit is delivered in the lecture/tutorial model. The lecture aims to be interactive, with the use of group activities and discussions. It provides time and space for students to relate to their own experiences, and ideally, share their thoughts and feelings with the rest of the class. The tutorial activities are designed to achieve the following two goals: to enhance learning on the content of the lecture and to provide support and guidance on assessments. The tutorials also serve to provide opportunities for interactions between students, creating a sense of team-based learning, where students provide informal and instant peer feedback to each other.

Students will receive feedback in various forms throughout the semester which may include:
- Informal: worked examples, such as verbal feedback in class, personal consultation

Overview
You will complete three assessment items which are designed to assist you in developing your understanding of performance and reward management as a key functional HRM area and of its critical importance in supporting organisations to maintain a competitive advantage. The first assessment is an individual strategic intervention proposal focusing on improving current performance processes in a given organisation. The second is a reflection on your own experience carrying out performance management tasks and the third is group assessment where you will present a practical presentation to a focal organisation.
You will receive feedback on your learning as you progress toward the development of knowledge, understanding, skills and attitudes; and demonstrate your learning in order to achieve a final grade.
Students may be required to attend campus or an assessment centre for the purposes of assessment, regardless of the attendance mode for the unit.
