Overview

In this unit, you will build on your understanding of contemporary learning theory to investigate and evaluate digital learning trends. New and emerging trends have the power to enhance and transform learning when implemented in purposeful and ethical ways. You will work collaboratively in a learning community with peers and facilitators to consider emerging trends that will shape the future of learning.

Learning Outcomes

On successful completion of this unit you will be able to:

  1. Evaluate scholarly and professional literature on the effectiveness of digital learning technologies and trends in facilitating adult learning in online environments. (CLO 2.1, 2.2)
  2. Create educational materials for peers and other stakeholders on digital learning technologies and trends. (CLO 1.1, 2.2)
  3. Discuss and review digital learning technologies and trends with professional peers, fostering an environment conducive to ongoing learning. (CLO 2.3, 3.1)
  4. Assess and mitigate ethical and privacy issues in the implementation of digital learning technologies and trends. (CLO 2.4)
  5. Design and justify digital learning innovation pilot plans and evaluation strategies for online adult learning environments. (CLO 2.4)

Learning Approaches

In this unit you will learn by engaging in active and reflective learning through participation with an emphasis on reflection on experience. Combining collaborative interaction and independent study, you will think critically and creatively about the future of learning, innovation in learning and the impact of technology on learning and how this has impact on learning design. The unit will draw upon your academic and/or professional experience in addition to set readings and multimodal resource materials.

Feedback on Learning and Assessment

You will gain feedback in this unit by participating in regular online discussion and collaborative spaces with peers and the teaching team. You will receive feedback on your contributions which will directly relate to and inform both pieces of assessment. Assessment will receive criteria-based grading and comments and the criteria will be considered by the cohort prior to assessment submission.

Overview

There are two assessment tasks in this unit:

1. Community of Practice Portfolio - this task draws on your understanding of current digital learning trends to participate in a community of practice through research, evaluation, creation of resources and discussion.

2. Digital Learning Innovation Pilot Plan - this task builds on your understanding of digital learning trends to inform pilot planning and evaluation strategies for their implementation.

Assessment Tasks

Assessment: Community of Practice Portfolio

You will create a portfolio containing examples of your contributions to the community of practice in Modules 1-4 of this unit. You will select examples that showcase your achievement of the unit learning outcomes and record your presentation of the rationale for the inclusion of each example.  

This assignment is eligible for the 48-hour late submission period and assignment extensions.

Assessment: Digital Learning Innovation Pilot Plan

You will take on the role of a learning designer to propose a pilot plan to your manager for the implementation and evaluation of a digital learning technology in your context.
