Overview
This unit explores the detailed links between the organisational business strategy and the projects, programs and portfolios delivered by global organisations. It teaches you how to use tools and techniques to extract maximum value from the project, program and portfolio and execute strategies for delivering optimal benefit for the global organisations. This unit links business strategy theories with the project, program and portfolio practices.
Learning Outcomes
On successful completion of this unit you will be able to:
- Identify and assess in detail the strategic alignment and viability of projects, programs and portfolios with their business direction in the global context.
- Critically evaluate how projects, programs and portfolios deliver benefits into the global client and provider organisations.
- Design stakeholder management plans to manage diverse and international stakeholders in the execution of strategies for new initiatives.
- Communicate strategic execution plans to organisational committees using language and communication styles suitable for a professional audience.
- Reflect on the skills required to work in teams to develop project execution plans.

This unit will be delivered fully online. In this unit, you will learn by engaging in active and reflective learning through:
- participating in class/online discussions
- engaging with online learning materials
- reading book chapters, scholarly and industry articles

- Rubrics provided to show the expected standard for each criteria in an assessment item.

Overview
There are two assessments in this unit:
- Strategic Plan – this will bring together your understanding of strategic theories and analysis tools to plan strategically in response to a changing environment.
- Strategic Execution Plan – this will build on your understanding of strategic execution planning and further develop your skills in project, program and portfolio management to execute initiatives and realise the benefits of strategies.

Assessment Tasks
Assessment: Strategic Plan
You will take on the role of an organisational employee who has been asked to identify a new initiative in an international context and develop the accompanying strategic plan to be delivered to the organisational committee. Your plan will include supporting arguments drawing on strategic analysis tools and frameworks.
This assignment is eligible for the 48-hour late submission period and assignment extensions.
Assessment: Strategic Execution Plan (Report + Presentation)
Working in a group, you will choose one of your initiatives from Assessment Item 1. Update the strategic plan and develop a strategic execution plan. You will deliver a report and present to the organisational committee board.
