Overview
Problem definition, evidence-based literature searching, applied research, reflective practice and effective communication of solutions through reporting are essential attributes of the modern Project Manager. This unit enables you to plan and execute an independent and applied research project addressing a relevant real world problem in a related project management discipline area and effectively communicate processes and solutions in a reflective way. It provides an opportunity to individualise your studies by concentrating on a specific problem and build on the applied, evidence-based research skills and knowledge you have gained in PMQ603 Project Investigation 1.

Content
The project is to be an empirical/evidence-based research project with the findings adding to the factual base of the topic or to addressing a relevant real world problem in a business or project management setting. You will build upon your project proposal developed in PMQ603 Project Investigation 1, reflect on your experiences and learning for project progress reporting, primarily leverage secondary data/ information sources for analysis with the core final outcome being the Final Research Report in the form of an article.
This unit will cover applied aspects of:
- information retrieval and literature review
- research design
- ethical conduct of research including academic integrity, copyright, intellectual property
- applied research methodologies relevant to the collection, synthesis, analysis, interpretation and reporting of secondary data or information
- academic/professional writing, reporting and presentation
- critical thinking, analysis, and reflective practice
Learning Approaches
This unit will be delivered fully online. In this unit, you will learn by engaging in active and reflective learning through:
- participating in class/online discussions
- participating in consultation sessions
- engaging with online learning materials
- reading book chapters, scholarly and industry articles
In this unit, you will learn by engaging in an independent work-related project. The unit incorporates some aspects of work-integrated learning, problem/project based learning, and experiential learning. You are expected to engage with unit materials and readings as recommended by the unit coordinator and/or supervisor.

There will be an opportunity to discuss any problems you may have encountered with the unit coordinator/supervisor and obtain necessary advice and assistance on your project and its progress throughout the unit teaching period. You will receive written feedback/comments on the summative assessment works in addition to the specific feedback provided through criteria reference sheets.

Overview
There are three assessments in this unit:
- Progress Report – you will further develop your applied research skills and provide a summary of your research progress including the identification of key contextual impacts on research project delivery. You will also critically reflect on your learning experience in developing a convincing, workable research project plan.
- Final Report – you will demonstrate the application of your applied research knowledge and skills by presenting a detailed report on the design and conduct of your applied research project to address a industry-based problem. This includes reporting on your final results and discussion, conclusions, research implications and limitations, and future research direction.
- Reflective Journal – you will document your critical reflections on your experiences throughout the applied research process and the knowledge gained working in collaboration with your supervisor.

Assessment Tasks
Assessment: Progress Report
You will provide a detailed overview of your research progress drawing on your previously proposed research. In your report you will incorporate the feedback received on your research proposal in PMQ603, the comments/feedback provided by your project supervisor, and you will critically reflect on your learning experience to develop a convincing, workable project plan.
This assignment is eligible for the 48-hour late submission period and assignment extensions.
Assessment: Final Report
You will provide a detailed report on the applied research project and its outcomes. You are required to synthesise the analysis and conclusions of the research from across PMQ603 & PMQ606 to produce a report of the project as a whole. This will be a written report structured according to conventional research reporting requirements. Project specific appendices to the report may be specified by your project supervisor.
This assignment is eligible for the 48-hour late submission period and assignment extensions.
Assessment: Reflective Journal
You will write a journal including details of research progress/ process, and critical self reflection on your experiences of the project this semester. The journal will be used progressively for consultation with your supervisor, with final submission at the end of semester.
