Overview
This capstone unit is a final year unit that will draw together your exercise physiology learning from your entire course. This unit enables you to integrate and synthesise your knowledge and skills, as well as drawing on your work integrated learning experience to demonstrate your readiness to practice in the exercise physiology profession. It provides an opportunity for you and the University to reflect and endorse your readiness to practice in the exercise physiology profession.
Learning Outcomes
On successful completion of this unit you will be able to:
- Provide real patients with evidence based exercise physiology services as demonstrated through the presentation and discussion of case scenarios.
- Integrate and synthesise your knowledge and skills developed throughout the course through demonstrations of your exercise physiology practice readiness.
Content
You will synthesise professional readiness, clinical skill and theoretical understanding as part of the final clinical unit.
Module 1: Professional Practice Case Scenarios
Collegial discussions of real world case scenarios will be conducted with a focus on the patient consultation and exercise management strategies within the scope of exercise physiology practice.
You will be required to de-identify client scenarios completed within your course units and clinical placements and share the learning experience with your peers.
Issues such as cultural sensitivity and challenging patient experiences will be incorporated into the discussions.
Module 2: Demonstrating Professional Readiness
Demonstrate evidence of your own exercise physiology competencies which align with the graduate attributes of a new graduate exercise physiology practitioner.
You will achieve this through demonstrating your exercise physiology skill competencies in an Objective Structured Clinical Examination (OSCE) aligned to the level of a new graduate exercise physiology practitioner.
Learning Approaches
This capstone unit will be completed in the final semester of your degree. The unit will be delivered through online and face to face learning, concluding with a final assessment. The timing of this unit allows intergration with your practicum experience within the Work Integrated Learning (WIL) units and facilitates your ability to reflect on your course learning and readiness to practice within the profession.
Feedback on Learning and Assessment
You will be provided with formative feedback across the semester to inform your learning and summative feedback at the completion of the two assessment tasks within this unit.
Assessment
Overview
Summative assessment consists of 2 items as outlined below. Both the Presentation (Complex Case Management) and the Practical Assessment (OSCE) must be successfully completed to a grade of 4 or above to pass the unit.
Threshold Assessment Conditions
In this unit, for you to be eligible to receive a passing grade, threshold assessment conditions apply. If you do not achieve the pass level for an assessment task you are able to make one resubmission of this work for the minimum pass level, only when their achieved mark/grade is within 10% (or 1 grade) of the pass level for the assessment item. You are advised to seek feedback on your submission from the unit coordinator prior to resubmission.

Assessment Tasks
Assessment: Complex Case Management Presentation
You will be required to present a complex case scenario of a real patient that you have provided exercise physiology services to.
This assignment is eligible for the 48-hour late submission period and assignment extensions.

If you do not pass the Complex Case Management Presentation, you can resit the assessment for the minimum pass level only when your achieved mark/grade is within 10% (or 1 grade) of the pass level for the assessment item. You are advised to seek feedback from the unit coordinator before the re-sit.
Assessment: OSCE
You will be required to provide evidence of your exercise physiology skill competencies across the exercise physiology scope of practice.

If you do not pass the OSCE, you can resit the assessment for the minimum pass level only when your achieved mark/grade is within 10% (or 1 grade) of the pass level for the assessment item.
