Overview
The assessment for this unit is designed to prepare you for your work integrated learning experiences (WIL) in final year. Formative assessment will be provided as part of problem based learning and clinical simulation will identify areas needing improvement prior to the completion of the final assessment.
In this unit as you further explore the roles and professional obligations of Accredited Practising Dietitians you will refocus (or create) your whole of course Leadership in Nutrition and Dietetic Practice - ePortfolio (Assessment 2). This portfolio will support and refine your growth mindset as you begin your WIL experience, and engage in further career planning in preparation for entry to the profession of nutrition and dietetics.

Assessment Tasks
Assessment: Develop dietetic counselling skills - simulation
You will be required to demonstrate a 10 minute negotiation of client-centred goals related to a selected health-related topic, which will be video recorded. The video will be accompanied with a brief evaluation and feedback to yourself, in which you will reflect on the experiences you have had, the techniques you have observed, and how these relate to the communication and counselling skills required to achieve competency as a graduate entry dietitian.
You will receive detailed feedback on assessment item 1 to inform your preparation for assessment item 3 Examination (Practical). The demonstration will be presented in line with a recommended structured template.
This assignment is eligible for the 48-hour late submission period and assignment extensions.
The ethical and responsible use of generative artificial intelligence (GenAI) tools is authorised in this assessment. See the relevant assessment details page for specific guidelines.
Assessment: Leadership in Nutrition Practice - ePortfolio
You will complete reflections, discussions, online learning modules related to the experiential activities completed within this unit. Activities will include reflections, and evidence of engagement related to inter-professional learning activities including peer and self assessment), hospital site visit learning, mental skills training for OSCE Performance, Cultural Safety and Responsive Practice and strengths-based best practice approaches in Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander health care, valuing Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander ways of knowing, being and doing), codes of conduct and professional practice, Generative AI, and career plans.
This assignment is eligible for the 48-hour late submission period and assignment extensions.

Assessment: Dietetic consultation practical exam
You will be required to undertake a 45 minute dietetic counselling session with an 'client' (actor). In this session you will be required to demonstrate establishment of an appropriate environment for counselling, the gathering of information from the client, application of a counselling technique, the negotiation of client-centred food and nutrition goals, and satisfactory communication skills. The session will be video recorded. Feedback will be provided to assist you in identifying areas of strength and weakness.
This assessment reflects key activities in your final year WIL, where you will be delivering client centred dietetic care in health settings, reflecting and enacting on self, supervisor (and peer) feedback.
This is an authentic assessment: conducting a nutrition assessment of a client and collaborating and negotiating a nutrition intervention plan with a client is the primary role of the dietitian across a range of clinical settings. Conducting a nutrition consultation is standard practice and a requirement of employment for all health professionals. The exam format is in a standard consultation that dietitians do in practice delivering client centred care, under time pressures with an observer (examiner) typical when undergoing professional supervision or with a clinical team member in the consultation.
The use of generative artificial intelligence (GenAI) tools is prohibited in this assessment.
Threshold Assessment:
You must achieve a pass for this assessment in order to achieve a satisfactory grade for the unit. You are able to make one re-submission of this work in order to achieve the minimum required pass level. You are advised to seek feedback on your submission from the unit coordinator prior to any re-submission.
