Overview

In this unit you will apply your knowledge of research and evaluation approaches to design a clinical practice evaluation plan. You will develop an appreciation of the scope, purpose and methods applied to a clinical practice concern of your choice and use professional communication skills to disseminate justification for translation of evidence to practice.

Learning Outcomes

On successful completion of this unit you will be able to:

  1. Apply knowledge and skills to design an evaluation plan in a health care context that complies with the principles of ethically responsible conduct.
  2. Critically discuss appropriate methods and strategies to minimise harm and enable implementation, including methods and evaluation strategies for the designated practice evaluation plan.
  3. Recommend and communicate strategies that enable knowledge translation in practice for your evaluation plan.

Content

The content of this unit includes:

  • Project planning, management, timelines, and considerations
  • Implementation frameworks and behaviour change theories
  • Engaging with key stakeholders and managing project barriers; and
  • Translating project findings and communication strategies.

Learning Approaches

This unit is offered in online mode and is delivered using a flexible and blended learning approach. You will complete a series of workshops during the semester to support development of your knowledge and skills in this unit. Small working group approaches led by a tutor will develop your understanding of principles of project management and adopting strategies to support translation of evidence-based practice approaches. A range of interactive activities will provide authentic learning and assessment contexts,  and will progressively extend and develop your knowledge and applied skills in practice evaluation and change. A social constructivist approach of peer review (using feedback software) will be embedded to enable a community of practice and inquiry that supports review of enablers and resolution of barriers facilitating translation to practice. You will have access to resources to support writing a blog and undertaking an oral presentation.

Feedback on Learning and Assessment

Assessment is designed throughout semester to provide progressive feedback on each stage of your learning to prepare a professional health practice evaluation plan. For example, you will undertake self assessment as well as formative and summative feedback from academics on your initial plan prior to presenting a more detailed outline of the methods and strategies. Which gives you further feedback to refine and write your final evaluation plan.  This structured approach to assessment and feedback will provide you with comprehensive feedback on your progress.

Assessment

Overview

Assessment is designed to measure your achievement of the unit learning outcomes. There are 3 assessment items in this unit, that progressively develop your capacity to design, present (justifying methods and strategies) and prepare an appropriate health practice evaluation plan.

The unit may use online web-based text-matching software that assists you to develop the academic skills required to correctly use and cite reference material as well as to check citations to determine and avoid possible instances of plagiarism.

Academic Integrity

Students are expected to engage in learning and assessment at QUT with honesty, transparency and fairness. Maintaining academic integrity means upholding these principles and demonstrating valuable professional capabilities based on ethical foundations.

Failure to maintain academic integrity can take many forms. It includes cheating in examinations, plagiarism, self-plagiarism, collusion, and submitting an assessment item completed by another person (e.g. contract cheating). It can also include providing your assessment to another entity, such as to a person or website.

You are encouraged to make use of QUT’s learning support services, resources and tools to assure the academic integrity of your assessment. This includes the use of text matching software that may be available to assist with self-assessing your academic integrity as part of the assessment submission process.

Further details of QUT’s approach to academic integrity are outlined in the Academic integrity policy and the Student Code of Conduct. Breaching QUT’s Academic integrity policy is regarded as student misconduct and can lead to the imposition of penalties ranging from a grade reduction to exclusion from QUT.
