Overview

This unit equips you with the knowledge and skills to understand how entrepreneurial organisations expand through the strategic use of ecosystem relationships, resources, and capabilities. You will investigate how entrepreneurs, investors, accelerators, and other ecosystem stakeholders influence growth trajectories and shape evidence based scaling decisions. Through authentic learning experiences, including guest speakers, applied case analyses, and industry engagement , you will develop the capability to design investment ready growth strategies for entrepreneurial organisations.

Learning Outcomes

On successful completion of this unit you will be able to:

  1. Analyse entrepreneurial ecosystems and evaluate the opportunities and constraints affecting the growth of entrepreneurial organisations. [KS 1.2, HO 2.1]
  2. Apply analytical and strategic reasoning to design evidence based scaling strategies for entrepreneurial organisations and communicate them professionally in written form. [HO 2.2, PC 3.1]
  3. Deliver persuasive, investor ready growth proposals for an entrepreneurial organisation using effective oral communication and exercise informed judgement when responding to stakeholder questions. [HO 2.2, PC 3.2]
  4. Collaborate effectively in entrepreneurial contexts and critically reflect on personal and team performance to demonstrate accountability and continuous professional growth. [TS 4.1, TS 4.2]

Content

In this unit, you will explore how entrepreneurial organisations grow by engaging with ecosystem partners, accessing resources, and developing viable strategic pathways for scaling. Key topics include:

  • Understanding entrepreneurial ecosystems and their key components

  • Mapping ecosystem relationships 

  • Building partnerships and accessing ecosystem resources (funding, networks, mentoring)

  • Developing scalable business models

  • Formulating and implementing growth strategies

  • Investment readiness and financing for entrepreneurial organisations

Learning Approaches

Learning in this unit is authentic, experiential and practice based. You will engage directly with entrepreneurial organisations and ventures, participate in group based learning activities, and analyse case studies to explore how these entities navigate the challenges of scaling. You will also reflect on your learning and professional development as an emerging entrepreneur and innovator. The learning design emphasises collaboration, critical inquiry, and responsible decision-making to prepare you for complex real world business environments.

Feedback on Learning and Assessment

Students will receive feedback in various forms throughout the semester which may include:

  •  Informal: worked examples, such as verbal feedback in class, individual consultation
  •  Formal: in writing, such as checklists, rubrics, written commentary
  •  Direct: to individual students, either in written form or in consultation
  •  Indirect: to the whole class

Overview

Assessment in this unit is designed to develop your ability to analyse entrepreneurial ecosystems, design evidence based growth strategies, and communicate persuasive, investment ready proposals for entrepreneurial organisations. Across the three assessment items, you will investigate real-world scaling challenges, apply strategic and analytical reasoning, and demonstrate professional communication skills in both written and oral form. These assessments build your capability to make viable scaling decisions and to collaborate effectively in complex, dynamic business environments.

Assessment Tasks

Assessment: Ecosystem Growth Strategy Report

You will analyse an entrepreneurial ecosystem relevant to a case entrepreneurial organisation to evaluate the opportunities, constraints and resources that influence its potential to scale. Your report will identify key ecosystem stakeholders, map relationships, and provide evidence based recommendations for how the organisation can strategically leverage ecosystem capabilities for growth. This task develops your ability to communicate insights through professional written formats.

This assignment is eligible for the 48 hour late submission period and assignment extensions. 

The ethical and responsible use of generative artificial intelligence (GenAI) tools is authorised in this assessment. See the relevant assessment details in Canvas for specific guidelines.

Assessment: Entrepreneurial Investment Pitch

You will work collaboratively to design and deliver a persuasive, investment-ready growth pitch for an entrepreneurial organisation. Drawing on ecosystem insights and scaling analysis, your team will recommend a viable growth pathway supported by strategic reasoning and evidence. During your presentation, you will demonstrate professional oral communication, apply informed strategic judgement, and work effectively as a team as you justify your recommendations to stakeholders. This assessment consists of three parts as follows:

  • Part A: You will submit a group slide deck prior to your scheduled presentation time. 
  • Part B: You will present a group pitch followed by a question and answer session during your scheduled presentation time.
  • Part C: You will complete and submit a peer review after your presentation. 

This assessment item requires your attendance at your scheduled session.

The late submission period does not apply, and no assignment extensions are available for Part A and Part B.

Part C Peer Review is eligible for the 48-hour late submission period and assignment extensions.

This assessment item is based on teamwork and provides evidence of achievement of associated Unit Learning Outcomes and Course Learning Outcomes. Individual submissions/presentations will not be accepted.

Assessment: Professional Reflection

This assessment requires you to reflect critically on both your individual performance and your team’s collaborative processes regarding the pitch task. You will evaluate your personal contributions, teamwork behaviours, communication, and decision-making, and consider how effectively the team worked together toward a shared outcome. The reflection will demonstrate your accountability, professional growth, and ability to collaborate in diverse entrepreneurial contexts.

This assessment item requires your attendance at your scheduled session.

This assessment item is a Verified Identity Assessment. Requirements are provided on the unit Canvas site.

The late submission period does not apply, and no assignment extensions are available.

The use of generative artificial intelligence (GenAI) tools is prohibited during this assessment.

Academic Integrity
