Overview

Understanding and having the confidence to interpret real-world problems and opportunities is critical in developing intrapreneurial or entrepreneurial ventures. In this unit you will explore a range of theories, approaches, techniques, and tools to develop your creative self-efficacy including problem framing, opportunity identification and creative problem solving. In so doing you will develop the capability to explore a range of possible ideas for your venture or innovation. 

Learning Outcomes

On successful completion of this unit you will be able to:

  1. Understand a wide range of conceptual and practical issues that facilitate creativity and innovation. [KS 1.1]
  2. Apply and evaluate ideation, creative problem-solving techniques, design thinking and analogical thinking principles to generate alternate solutions in relation to entrepreneurial ventures. [HO 2.1, TS 4.1]
  3. Use teamwork knowledge and skills in working with peers to communicate new value ideas to entrepreneurship ecosystem stakeholders. [TS 4.2]
  4. Communicate to a defined audience the nature of the creativity process and/or relevant recommendations or outcomes. [PC 3.1, 3.2]
  5. Critically reflect on the social and sustainable influences relevant to idea. [SE 5.2]

In this unit, you will develop the tools and mindsets needed to recognise opportunities, generate ideas, and communicate them effectively through:

Learning Approaches

The teaching and learning approaches in this unit incorporate a number of methods to engage students to evaluate themselves, work with others, and develop experience in applying structured problem solving methods. The lectures and tutorials have been tailored to create engaging platforms for discussion, insight, and exploration of key concepts to elevate your engagement with and effectiveness of your team and identify essential skills and expectations for navigating the graduate employment world. 

 This learning approach emphasises practice-based methods that allow students to actively apply entrepreneurial theories, tools, and mindsets to real-world contexts. Through workshop-style approaches, venture insights, team-based projects and the use of specific innovation frameworks, students are encouraged to experiment, iterate, and learn from feedback. This approach fosters critical reflection, creativity, and an entrepreneurial mindset while cultivating skills in opportunity recognition, customer analysis, venture design, and ethical decision-making. Students thus not only develop technical and analytical competencies, but also strengthen their capacity to communicate persuasively, exercise independent judgment, and lead in uncertain, dynamic environments. 

Feedback on Learning and Assessment

Students will receive feedback in various forms throughout the semester which may include:

  •  Informal: worked examples, such as verbal feedback in class, individual consultation
  •  Formal: in writing, such as checklists, rubrics, written commentary
  •  Direct: to individual students, either in written form or in consultation
  •  Indirect: to the whole class

Overview

In this unit you will undertake a series of assessment items designed to assist you developing key skills and attributes relating to your creative and problem-solving ability.  Working both in groups and individually you will undertake a number of different tasks designed to develop and build your creative self-efficacy.

Assessment: Elevator Pitch

In this interactive presentation, you will identify, examine, present and reflect on a real-world problem or opportunity that can be solved with intrapreneurial or entrepreneurial spirit. You will pitch your problem/opportunity and your idea to the class. In the presentation, you will need to demonstrate how you used relevant concepts and tools for identifying the problem/opportunity and provide real-world evidence to support your case. 

The ethical and responsible use of generative artificial intelligence (GenAI) tools is authorized in this assessment. See the relevant assessment details in Canvas for specific guidelines.  

This assessment item requires your attendance in your scheduled session. 

This assessment item is a Verified Identity Assessment. Requirements are provided on the unit canvas site. 

This assignment is not eligible for the 48-hour late submission period and assignment extensions.

Assessment: From the Idea to Impact

Building on the problem or opportunity analysis from assessment 1, you will work in a group and expand on a chosen idea. The idea should be applicable in the real-world and your group should demonstrate intrapreneurial or entrepreneurial thinking when you and your group present your solutions to the class. The presentation will be interactive and includes oral reflection from you and your group members. You and your group are encouraged to use creativity and out of the box thinking in approaching this task. In addition, your group will need to prepare a report together outlining the framing, analysis and synthesis of the problem and the solution.

This assessment item requires your attendance at your scheduled session. 

This assessment items are based on teamwork and provides evidence of achievement of associated Unit Learning Outcomes and Course Learning Outcomes. Individual submissions/presentation will not be accepted.   

This oral presentation part of the assignment is not eligible for the 48-hour late submission period and assignment extensions, however, the written submission is eligible for the 48-hour late submission period and assignment extensions.
