Overview

To prepare for life outside of the academic institution, it is important to be able to showcase your work with knowledge of the requirements of your field. This unit builds on previous studies of animation techniques and production processes to complete a final advanced project and to create a professional showreel and portfolio. It continues to develop animation production skills, concentrating on final output and post-production.

Learning Outcomes

On successful completion of this unit you will be able to:

  1. Work professionally and independently within an animation studio as a leader or collaborator on an animation project.
  2. Produce and communicate original content to professional standards as a means to showcase your animation production skills.
  3. Critically reflect on your creative process and methods within the field of animation production and actively engage in critique sessions.
  4. Confidently work with the tools and studio processes involved in computer animation using complex problem solving through iterative experimentation to complete production tasks.

Content

This unit addresses content such as the specifics of pitching, building and creating a successful animation profile and portfolio, how advanced animation concepts and technical processes are translated in software, how studio processes like storyboarding, acting, and drawing from life are integrated into a professional output, through post production transitioning between university and industry or into higher degrees.

Learning Approaches

This unit incorporates workshops structured as a combination of intensive production environments and supportive studio environments. Progress on creative projects on a regular basis will be developed through mentoring and peer critique.

Feedback on Learning and Assessment

The studio environment allows for ongoing communication and feedback. Your contribution to the studio will be considered in terms of teamwork, ethical and collaborative behaviour, engaged and reflective participation and understanding of the process and roles in a studio environment.

Additionally feedback in this unit is provided to you in the following ways:

  • criteria sheet grading of summative pieces
  • comments on summative assessment outcomes in addition to criteria sheets via in class discussions facilitated through critique sessions during class time
  • general comments back to the cohort via QUT Canvas and within classes
  • feedback from peers.

Academic Integrity

Students are expected to engage in learning and assessment at QUT with honesty, transparency and fairness. Maintaining academic integrity means upholding these principles and demonstrating valuable professional capabilities based on ethical foundations.

Failure to maintain academic integrity can take many forms. It includes cheating in examinations, plagiarism, self-plagiarism, collusion, and submitting an assessment item completed by another person (e.g. contract cheating). It can also include providing your assessment to another entity, such as to a person or website.

You are encouraged to make use of QUT’s learning support services, resources and tools to assure the academic integrity of your assessment. This includes the use of text matching software that may be available to assist with self-assessing your academic integrity as part of the assessment submission process.

Further details of QUT’s approach to academic integrity are outlined in the Academic integrity policy and the Student Code of Conduct. Breaching QUT’s Academic integrity policy is regarded as student misconduct and can lead to the imposition of penalties ranging from a grade reduction to exclusion from QUT.
