Overview

This capstone unit challenges you to develop a comprehensive business plan and strategy for launching a hosted media venture or integrating hosted media into a self-owned business. You will apply knowledge and analytical frameworks from Media Entrepreneurship to conduct sector analysis, evaluate market opportunities, and design sustainable business models. Working collaboratively in teams, you will incubate your business concept while developing professional presentation skills, conducting peer analysis, and providing constructive feedback. This unit synthesizes your learning and prepares you to launch and sustain media entrepreneurship ventures in dynamic hosted media environments.

Learning Outcomes

On successful completion of this unit you will be able to:

  1. Synthesize knowledge and analytical frameworks from the Media Entrepreneurship major to develop comprehensive business plans for hosted media ventures that demonstrate rigorous market research, strategic analysis, and sustainable revenue models.
  2. Evaluate hosted media market opportunities and competitive landscapes to identify viable business concepts and assess strategic positioning within the sector.
  3. Collaborate in teams to critically analyze business plans, identify strategic weaknesses, and develop solutions through structured feedback and iterative refinement processes.
  4. Communicate business strategies and venture proposals effectively through professional presentations that articulate value propositions, market positioning, and implementation plans to diverse stakeholders.

Learning Approaches

In this unit, you will learn by engaging in lectures, tutorials and self-study. In lectures, you will learn advanced knowledge of, and critical perspectives on, media entrepreneurship. In tutorials you will apply your understanding in activities and discussions. You must prepare for tutorials by engaging with the lecture material and completing any prescribed reading in advance.

You will receive feedback on your progressive understanding of key issues and debates in weekly tutorials. You will be provided with a Criterion Referenced Assessment sheet for all assessment that will explain your assessment’s achievement. Furthermore, you will be given verbal feedback on assessment where appropriate.

Overview

There are three assessment tasks. You will develop a comprehensive Business Plan for a hosted media venture that applies knowledge from across the Media Entrepreneurship major to demonstrate market research, strategic analysis, and sustainable business model design; the Business Plan Pitch communicates your venture concept to the class through a professional presentation and slide deck; and Participation evaluates your engagement through teamwork, peer feedback, and collaborative contribution to venture incubation.

Assessment Tasks

Assessment: Business Plan Pitch

You will deliver a team presentation of your hosted media business plan, supported by a slide deck. Your pitch will communicate your venture's market opportunity, business model, competitive advantages, and strategic approach to a class audience simulating potential stakeholders. This assessment demonstrates your capacity to translate comprehensive business planning into clear, persuasive communication that articulates the viability and value of your proposed venture.

The use of generative artificial intelligence (GenAI) tools is prohibited during this assessment.

Assessment: Business Plan

Based on feedback from the Business Plan Pitch you will produce an individualised, comprehensive business plan for a hosted media venture. Drawing on concepts and frameworks from throughout your study, this assessment demonstrates your capacity to synthesize prior learning, conduct strategic analysis, and develop actionable plans for hosted media entrepreneurship.

The use of generative artificial intelligence (GenAI) tools is prohibited during this assessment.

This assignment is eligible for the 48-hour late submission period and assignment extensions.

Academic Integrity
