Overview
This unit develops visual communication skills previously acquired with emphasis on the ability to communicate technical intentions. Architects recognise that visualisation or communication of process, decisions and outcomes is crucial. To date, you know how to effectively communicate your architectural intentions using both analogue and digital means, skills primarily intended for the communication of design and technical aspects of buildings. However, the ability to communicate technical intentions is equally important. This unit integrates both these aspects through technical communication and documentation skills using Building Information Modelling (BIM).

On successful completion of this unit you will be able to:
- Technical digital skills to assist the development and communication of architectural design ideas.
- Establish skills to effectively communicate architectural ideas and designs using Building Information Modelling.
- Apply theoretical and technical skills and knowledge of architectural documentation.
Content
Topics covered in this unit include:
- application of technical and architectural specific techniques and conventions required of building construction drawings
- BIM skills to inform the process of technical communication through the development, undertaking and communication of a design
- technical documentation that enables the effective communication of ideas to a divergent audience.
Learning Approaches
The approaches in this unit will be through individual and team-based learning. Your learning in this unit will be fostered through formal lectures, group workshops, desk critiques of your work, research, and analysis. As part of real world learning and in line with the current practices of the architectural profession, collaborative learning in a group setting will be integral to the learning exercises. On occasion, you will be required to display your work for critiques in a group setting, giving you opportunity to explain your ideas and their implementation in your project work.

Assessment
Overview
This unit will contain two summative assessment items that will measure your ability to produce a BIM model and then extract technical documentation from it. Your teaching activities and online content will be the formative support for your successful completion of assessment items.

Assessment Tasks
Assessment: Integrated technology building design model
Skill development of the use of Building information Modelling (BIM) software to create a model that integrates technical information into building design.
This assignment is eligible for the 48-hour late submission period and assignment extensions.
Assessment: Technical BIM documentation
Technical documentation for one detailed aspect of a building
This assignment is eligible for the 48-hour late submission period and assignment extensions.
Academic Integrity
