Overview

We live in exciting times with technology driving change at an ever-increasing rate. To remain competitive in this
world, organisations and individuals need to be adaptive and flexible. This means being able to effectively analyse and
assess current capabilities and then take necessary organisational learning and development action. This unit provides
you with the knowledge and skills required to carry out these functions and in so doing, gives you the tools needed to
be a positive driver of organisational success.

Learning Approaches

The unit uses the lecture and tutorial model and encourages your active participation. Activities may include case studies, real-world examples, scenarios, group activities, problem-based learning, industry involvement and simulations. MGB231 emphasises the development of your professional design skills through multi-phase design projects as carried out in this field. Deep learning is developed through your design work and your justification of your design decisions based on research and best practice in the Learning and Development field. MGB231 will foster creativity, critical enquiry, a commitment to professionalism and ethical practice.

Feedback on Learning and Assessment

Students will receive feedback in various forms throughout the semester which may include:

  • Informal: worked examples, such as verbal feedback in class, personal consultation
  • Formal: in writing, such as checklists (e.g. criteria sheets), written commentary
  • Direct: to individual students, either in written form or in consultation
  • Indirect: to the whole class

Assessment

Overview

You will complete three assessment items which are designed to assist you in developing your ability to effectively analyse and assess current HRM capabilities and then take the necessary organisational learning and development actions. The first assessment is an individual training needs analysis identifying relevant organisational gaps. The second is where you develop a resultant training program meeting the identified gap and the third assessment is where you, as a group, develop and present a training video relating the identified gap.

You will receive feedback on your learning as you progress toward the development of knowledge, understanding, skills and attitudes; and demonstrate your learning in order to achieve a final grade.

Students may be required to attend campus or an assessment centre for the purposes of assessment, regardless of the attendance mode for the unit.

Assessment: Training Needs Analysis

You will carry out a training needs analysis to identify training gaps and formulate your recommendations.

Assessment: Designing a Training Program

Design a training program to meet the needs identified in Assessment 1. Working individually, you will prepare a report displaying your design and justifying your sustainable training program using the learning literature.

Assessment: Development Plan Video

In groups, you will develop and present a development plan aimed at meeting development needs of the individual (from Assessment 1) for a future role of their career. The total marks incorporate self and peer evaluation of group processes.

Academic Integrity
