Overview

This unit is designed to give students an introduction to education policy analysis. Critical policy analysis is an important skill for education researchers and practitioners, and policies in this field have significant social consequences. This unit equips you with the skills to critically interrogate policy evidence, impacts and implications. This unit will draw on important debates in contemporary policy to explore some important ways policy works – as a practical expression of government intentions, as a mechanism for social inclusion and exclusion, and as an expression of social and political relationships. This unit provides the opportunity for you to draw together the knowledge and skills you have developed in your degree, and practice policy analysis.

Learning Outcomes

On successful completion of this unit you will be able to:

  1. Conduct education policy analysis using critical policy analysis theory and techniques.
  2. Critically evaluate policy analyses including those produced by Gen AI drawing on research and theory.
  3. Create briefing notes and presentations to advocate for policy and change.
  4. Reflect on and reflexively analyse education policy, policy analysis and the policy process.
  5. Propose and justify policy recommendations based on policy analysis and research.

The ethical and responsible use of generative artificial intelligence (GenAI) tools is authorised in this assessment. See the relevant assessment details in Canvas for specific guidelines.

This assignment is eligible for the 48-hour late submission period and assignment extensions.
