Overview

In this unit, you will learn how to lead the collective and individual learning and wellbeing of others. You will engage with adult learning theories and principles and explore how these can be applied to specific educational contexts. In this unit, you will also be introduced to principles of mentoring and how to establish and maintain a professional learning culture in workplace contexts. You will engage with specific work-based challenges for leaders such as workplace supervision and managing performance and explore ways to negotiate these challenges effectively and ethically.

Learning Outcomes

On successful completion of this unit you will be able to:

  1. Critically analyse organisational approaches to workplace appraisal and wellbeing.
  2. Reflect on professional roles and practice to articulate professional experiences and learning goals in relation to theory.
  3. Design professional plans and justify the approaches drawing on theories and principles of adult and professional learning.
  4. Source and evaluate scholarly and professional literature on workplace appraisal and wellbeing.

Learning Approaches

In this unit you will learn through engaging in the following:

  • tutorials (online and on-campus)
  • online learning activities
  • small group collaboration
  • readings
  • authentic assessment tasks in which you will apply scholarly knowledge to real world scenarios and in your own context.

This unit employs interactive and discussion-based learning, case study based activities and critical reflection on the intersection of theory and experience.

Assessment

Overview

In this unit there are two assessments:

  1. Critical analysis of workplace learning literature - This task draws on performance management and performance principles, theories and practice to critically analyse workplace appraisal processes.
  2. Workplace professional learning plan - This task connects literature, theories and principles introduced in the unit with your professional role to identify professional learning goals and design a professional learning plan.

Assessment Tasks

Assessment: Critical analysis of workplace processes

You will describe the appraisal processes you are engaged with in your workplace. Critically analyse the processes and the organisational approaches to wellbeing. Your appraisal will draw on theories and academic literature from both the unit and your wider research. Include de-identified evidence of the appraisal processes in your workplace.

The ethical and responsible use of generative artificial intelligence (GenAI) tools is authorised in this assessment. See the relevant assessment details in Canvas for specific guidelines.

This assignment is eligible for the 48-hour late submission period and assignment extensions.

Assessment: Workplace professional learning plan

You will identify professional learning goals and design your professional learning plan to present to your supervisor. Justify your professional learning plan design and leadership approach by drawing on the literature, theories and principles introduced in the unit, reflection on practice, your current role and professional conversations with your peers. You will submit a recorded presentation of yourself presenting your plan and the justification, including evidence of your practice and professional conversations.

Academic Integrity
