Overview
This unit in the final year of your course builds upon the developmental work you have undertaken in CSH600 Evidence Based Clinical Practice. CSB072 provides you with the opportunity to investigate a topic of interest in contemporary practice and demonstrate your capability at critical analysis, synthesis and evaluation of the evidence available.
Learning Outcomes
On successful completion of this unit you will be able to:
- Demonstrate your ability to work in a team to source evidence from a variety of appropriate sources (MRPBA Domains 3.2a, 4.1a, 4.1b).
- Critically evaluate and analyse the information gathered (MPRBA Domain 4.1b).
- Present a review suitable for an oral professional conference presentation (MRPBA Domains 4.1b, 4.1d).
- Communicate your review outcomes to your peers using an e-poster presentation (MRPBA Domains 4.1b, 4.1d).
Content
The major topics covered in this intensive unit will be related to supporting you to achieve your learning outcomes. This will include:
- Formulating a research proposal
- Guidelines for preparing and presenting a conference presentation
- Formulating an abstract
- Methods for creating an effective e poster suitable for a conference presentation.
These learning outcomes address elements of the domains for the professional capabilities for medical radiation practice for the Medical Radiation Practice Board of Australia (MRPBA).
Each learning outcome is mapped to the relevant professional capability as demonstrated.
Learning Approaches
This unit will be run in an intensive mode due to the extended clinical placement activities during your final year of study. Lectorials and group discussion sessions will be used to engage you in formulating your research topic based on contemporary clinical practice and learning the skills needed to produce a presentation. The poster activity will be group based and if possible discussion sessions will be timetabled into collaborative learning spaces. You will be expected to make use of appropriate technology to develop and share information within the group and to participate equally in the writing of the content of the poster even though you may be in separate clinical sites during the semester.
Feedback on Learning and Assessment
You will receive feedback in several ways during this unit.
- A range of review topics will be discussed in class
- Criteria referenced assessment sheets will be returned to you
- E posters will receive peer review when available on the Canvas site.
Assessment
Overview
The summative assessment items for this unit include a group activity. Students will be required to complete a group work contribution contract to ensure even distribution of workload during this activity. All assessment items will be due at the end of semester and require upload of the e poster onto the Canvas site. Formative feedback will be provided during group discussion sessions when on campus.
Unit Grading Scheme
7- point scale

Academic Integrity
Students are expected to engage in learning and assessment at QUT with honesty, transparency and fairness. Maintaining academic integrity means upholding these principles and demonstrating valuable professional capabilities based on ethical foundations.
Failure to maintain academic integrity can take many forms. It includes cheating in examinations, plagiarism, self-plagiarism, collusion, and submitting an assessment item completed by another person (e.g. contract cheating). It can also include providing your assessment to another entity, such as to a person or website.
You are encouraged to make use of QUT’s learning support services, resources and tools to assure the academic integrity of your assessment. This includes the use of text matching software that may be available to assist with self-assessing your academic integrity as part of the assessment submission process.
Further details of QUT’s approach to academic integrity are outlined in the Academic integrity policy and the Student Code of Conduct. Breaching QUT’s Academic integrity policy is regarded as student misconduct and can lead to the imposition of penalties ranging from a grade reduction to exclusion from QUT.
Resources
QUT Library subject guides and professional journals will be used as resource materials.
