Overview
This Work Integrated Learning unit synthesises the knowledge and skills developed in earlier foundational units associated with effective social media management. It applies them to a professional media and communication industries context. The unit supports the development of collaborative teamwork skills to respond to a real client brief. This reflects the kinds of work that professional communicators undertake.
Learning Outcomes
On successful completion of this unit you will be able to:
- Communicate professionally with the client ensuring you maintain client confidentiality and ethical and legal conduct.
- Design an effective social media strategy for a client using industry standard tools, techniques and agile methodologies.
- Write an analysis and recommendations report for the client.
- Present a synthesis of key points from the report to the client in the form of a pitch.
- Collaborate in a team to design an effective social media strategy for a client and reflect critically on the process.
Content
This unit will explore topics such as:
- Qualities of high performing teams
- Professional conduct (ethics, law and client confidentiality)
- Preparing and conducting client meetings
- Interpreting a client brief
- Developing a social media strategy
- Planning a project using Agile methodology
- Entrepreneurial and design thinking
- Delivering a client pitch.
Learning Approaches
This unit is taught via a blended approach that combines elements of online delivery and face-to-face.
Learning experiences in this unit include:
- participating in class/online tutorials
- attending lectures
- engaging with online learning materials
- reading book chapters, scholarly and industry articles
- panel sessions with industry experts
This unit primarily adopts a group-based learning approach to project development will be undertaken, where you will meet regularly with tutors and share your project progress and challenges, receive peer and tutor feedback and be supported in the development of key capabilities required to successfully conduct your research.
Feedback on Learning and Assessment
You will receive feedback on your learning in a variety of ways, including:
- Informal formative feedback in tutorials,
- Self-assessment tools,
- Peer feedback,
- Formal written or recorded feedback on both formative and summative assessment tasks in addition to the grade on the Criterion Reference Assessment sheet.

Overview
In this assessment you will complete two tasks:
1. Project proposal and team charter - This task applies analysis and teamwork collaboration skills to propose a plan for responding to a client brief and developing a team charter.
2. Project report and pitch - This task draws on effective social media management strategies and data analysis skills to develop recommendations in response to the client brief. These will be communicated through a professional project report and a pitch to the client. The teamwork undertaken in this unit will form the basis for a critical reflection on the entrepreneurial process.

Assessment Tasks
Assessment: Project proposal and team charter
Working in teams, you will provide a project proposal that indicates your response to the client brief. You will also develop a team charter including team member roles and responsibilities, project schedule, communication channels and risk management.
You will individually reflect on your participation in teamwork and your developing professional practice, including ethical, legal and confidentiality practices.
This is an assignment for the purposes of an extension.
Assessment: Project report and pitch
In teams you will apply your knowledge of effective social media management to respond to a challenge or opportunity outlined in the client brief. Your team will analyse the client brief, identify client requirements, make recommendations, devise an effective social media strategy, which could be taken forward by the client and implemented in the future.
Additionally, your team will identify the key digital metrics that would enable the client to evaluate the effectiveness of the strategy.
In addition to a report, your teamYou will need to individually deliver a targeted pitch to your client regarding your group's proposed strategy. Each team member will be required to deliver their agreed component of the project.
Individually, you are also required to write a brief reflection on your work, reflecting on contributions and challenges of the project. A self and peer assessment where you will grade the contribution of yourself and members of your team will also be undertaken.
