Following this foundation, discipline-specific tutorials will develop research capabilities and professional skills relevant to specific creative contexts, culminating in a student-led research conference addressing contemporary industry challenges.

Learning Approaches

Format: Industry intensive conference, discipline-specific tutorials, student-led research conference, industry panels, workshops, and peer collaboration

Feedback on Learning and Assessment

Formative feedback on learning will be provided through in-class activities facilitated by your tutor, as well as in peer-to-peer class discussion. You will also receive summative feedback through graded criteria sheets and additional comments.

Assessment

Overview

This unit has three assessment items that integrate theoretical understanding with practical professional application. Assessment 1 is a critical reflection on key insights from the Industry intensive, identifying specific learning outcomes and developing preliminary proposals for subsequent assessments, encouraging deep engagement with conference content and strategic planning for professional development. Assessment 2 is a student-negotiated portfolio of four practical professional tasks relevant to discipline and career goals, (e.g., album release plans, press releases, contract analysis, a successful marketing campaign analysis, grant applications, pitching materials, volunteering), developing authentic professional skills while allowing for individual career focus. Assessment 3  involves students investigating a contemporary challenge or opportunity within their chosen creative industry, developing research-based recommendations presented as a 10-minute conference presentation with research paper at a formal student-led conference, providing authentic professional presentation experience and peer learning opportunities.

Academic Integrity

Academic integrity is a commitment to undertaking academic work and assessment in a manner that is ethical, fair, honest, respectful and accountable.

The Academic Integrity Policy sets out the range of conduct that can be a failure to maintain the standards of academic integrity. This includes, cheating in exams, plagiarism, self-plagiarism, collusion and contract cheating. It also includes providing fraudulent or altered documentation in support of an academic concession application, for example an assignment extension or a deferred exam.

You are encouraged to make use of QUT’s learning support services, resources and tools to assure the academic integrity of your assessment. This includes the use of text matching software that may be available to assist with self-assessing your academic integrity as part of the assessment submission process.

Breaching QUT’s Academic Integrity Policy or engaging in conduct that may defeat or compromise the purpose of assessment can lead to a finding of student misconduct (Code of Conduct – Student) and result in the imposition of penalties under the Management of Student Misconduct Policy, ranging from a grade reduction to exclusion from QUT.
