Assessment
Overview
There are three assessments in this unit.
The third assessment is Verified Identity Assessment. To maintain assessment integrity, teaching staff will verify your identity during the assessment. You will need to show your face and present your QUT ID Card or QUT Digital ID. This process may be recorded. If you have any concerns, please contact your unit coordinator at least one week before the assessment date.
A1: Creative Industries Policy Scan and Opportunity Case Study
Students identify a contemporary creative industries challenge and analyse the relevant policy, funding and stakeholders. This should include existing funding schemes and previously funded projects. They conclude by identifying one viable opportunity for policy reform and/or a creative venture that responds to this context.
Aligned ULOs: ULO1, ULO2, ULO3.
A2: Creative Project Proposal
This task builds on unit-delivered policy and context analysis skills to inform opportunity identification for new ventures in creative industries. It incorporates key skills for creative project management and written funding applications, including the creation of audiovisual materials to support the proposal.
Aligned ULOs: ULO3, ULO4, with supporting alignment to ULO1.
A3: Oral VIA Creative Venture Pitch
Students orally pitch and defend a discipline-relevant proposed creative venture, explaining how it responds to specific and relevant policy, why the opportunity may be viable, and how the project could be managed.
Aligned ULOs: ULO3, ULO4, with supporting alignment to ULO1.

Assessment Tasks
Assessment: Creative Industries Policy Scan and Opportunity Case Study
In this individual task, you will choose a contemporary challenge affecting the creative industries and investigate the broader context around it. This includes analysing relevant policy settings, funding priorities, disciplinary debates, key stakeholders, existing funding schemes, and examples of previously funded projects. Your aim is to show how this context creates a possible opportunity for action. You will conclude by identifying one viable opportunity for policy reform and/or a new creative venture that responds to the challenge you have analysed. This task will help you build the research and analysis needed for your later creative project proposal.
This assignment is eligible for the 48-hour late submission period and assignment extensions.
The ethical and responsible use of generative artificial intelligence (GenAI) tools is authorised in this assessment. See the relevant assessment details in Canvas for specific guidelines.
Assessment: Creative Project Proposal
In this individual task, you will develop a written proposal for a new creative industries project or venture. Your proposal should be informed by policy and context analysis, and should clearly explain the opportunity your project responds to, why it matters, and who it is for.
You will apply creative project management skills by outlining key project elements such as aims, activities, stakeholders, timelines, risks, sustainability considerations, and funding needs. You will also prepare compelling written and audiovisual material to support the proposal and communicate the value of your project to potential funders, partners or stakeholders.
This assignment is eligible for the 48-hour late submission period and assignment extensions.
The ethical and responsible use of generative artificial intelligence (GenAI) tools is authorised in this assessment. See the relevant assessment details in Canvas for specific guidelines.
Assessment: Oral VIA Creative Venture Pitch
You will take on the role of an independent creative industries professional and identify an opportunity for a creative venture that builds on your context and policy analysis from the previous assessment. In the form of a 5-7 min oral presentation, you will detail your plan for your creative venture, including the relevant policy and funding you have researched and aligned for the project. You will respond to three prompts from the assessor which will be shared with you ahead of time. You will also respond to questions from the assessor on the strength of your pitch.
Please note, you will NOT refer to a script or slides for this verified oral assessment. This is a live assessment and a recording cannot be submitted. There is no written component to this assessment to be submitted or referred to. You will have ample time in tutorials to develop your oral presentation skills for this assessment piece.
Please note this assignment is NOT eligible for the 48-hour late submission period and assignment extensions.
The ethical and responsible use of generative artificial intelligence (GenAI) tools is NOT authorised in this assessment. See the relevant assessment details in Canvas for specific guidelines.
Academic Integrity
Academic integrity is a commitment to undertaking academic work and assessment in a manner that is ethical, fair, honest, respectful and accountable.
The Academic Integrity Policy sets out the range of conduct that can be a failure to maintain the standards of academic integrity. This includes, cheating in exams, plagiarism, self-plagiarism, collusion and contract cheating. It also includes providing fraudulent or altered documentation in support of an academic concession application, for example an assignment extension or a deferred exam.
You are encouraged to make use of QUT’s learning support services, resources and tools to assure the academic integrity of your assessment. This includes the use of text matching software that may be available to assist with self-assessing your academic integrity as part of the assessment submission process.
Breaching QUT’s Academic Integrity Policy or engaging in conduct that may defeat or compromise the purpose of assessment can lead to a finding of student misconduct (Code of Conduct – Student) and result in the imposition of penalties under the Management of Student Misconduct Policy, ranging from a grade reduction to exclusion from QUT.

Having identified these opportunities, you will then learn how to develop them into a project plan. This draws on the critical creative project management skills and understanding taught in the unit. You will also learn how to advocate for future creative industries policy at multiple levels. Finally, the unit also covers the vital skill of developing compelling text and audiovisual content for future funding proposals.

A1: Creative Industries Policy and Project Development Brief – 40%
Students identify a contemporary creative industries challenge and undertake a focused analysis of the relevant policy, funding environment and key stakeholders. Drawing on this research, they identify a viable opportunity for policy reform and/or a creative venture and develop it into a concise project proposition. This includes the project purpose, intended audience or beneficiaries, key stakeholders and activities, relevant project management considerations, and an appropriate funding pathway. Students also develop a concise written case for support suitable for a prospective funder or stakeholder.
Aligned ULOs: ULO1, ULO2, ULO3, ULO4.
A2: Oral VIA Creative Venture Pitch and Defence – 60%
Students develop and refine the creative venture identified in A1 and present it as a compelling live pitch to prospective partners or stakeholders. They explain the relevant creative industries and policy context, the opportunity being addressed, why the proposed venture is viable, and how it would be planned and managed.
