Study Area Description

The Property Experience Minor allows students to explore a broad range of Property discipline areas as they relate the Property market, and gain an understanding of how these interrelate with other disciplines in the relevant social and economic environment. This minor provides opportunity to gain a greater understanding and practical awareness of the role property plays in in the built environment sector.

The following study areas have been discontinued or its version has been discontinued. Students who have already commenced one of these minors will be permitted to complete it.

Study Area Description

The construction contract management minor aims to provide students with a greater awareness of construction contract management roles in the built environment sector. The minor will explore construction fundamentals and administration of construction contracts within the context of the built environment supported by an introductory base of legal principles and construction procurement methods.

The construction economics minor provides students with an understanding of the fundamental principles of building economics and the role of the Quantity Surveyor and Cost Engineer. This minor seeks to introduce students to cost planning and cost controls techniques in the financial management of built environment projects. The minor is underpinned by an understanding in construction discipline knowledge and theoretical concepts, and procurement techniques at a domestic and or small commercial development level.

Urban and regional planners design and administer plans and policies on a range of scales (neighbourhood, local, regional, state) in order to manage the use of land and natural resources to meet future human needs in a sustainable way.  This minor introduces students from diverse backgrounds to the field of urban and regional planning and to the principles and processes that guide the planning professions. Students will have the opportunity to gain understanding of the importance of the social, economic, legal and environmental context of planning activities and gain basic skills in design, negotiation and conflict resolution as well as experience in working in teams on planning projects.
