Overview
Chemistry at QUT has strong links to the Chemistry profession through direct involvement with the Royal Australian Chemical Institute, employers of our past graduates and QUT Chemistry alumni. The Major is designed for students wishing to pursue:
- A career in Chemistry-related manufacturing industries (e.g. industrial chemicals, plastics, pharmaceuticals, food);
- A career with public instrumentalities and Government bodies (e.g. environmental chemist, quality control analyst, water and wastewater treatment, environmental monitoring);
- A career in Chemistry education, science communication, or scientific instrument sales and/or development;
- A career in laboratory testing (e.g. laboratory technician, research and development chemist, and/or laboratory supervisor); or
- A career in Chemistry research in public research institutes or private research and development facilities.
QUT You
You may be required to complete QUT You units in your course – find out more about QUT You.
Course Structures
To meet the course requirements of the Bachelor of Science Advanced (Honours), you must complete a total of 384 credit points.

Analytical Chemistry Extension Minor - ST01MNR-ANACHM
Study Area Description
The Analytical Chemistry Minor provides knowledge of Analytical Chemistry terminology and principles, experience in safe laboratory practice and a range of laboratory techniques and instrumental methods, and an appreciation of the importance of sampling, field analysis, data collection and analysis in obtaining chemical data. The unit Chemical Measurement Science will provide practical experience with ISO/IEC 17025-2005, if you are interested in the running and managing of laboratories. The unit Instrumental Analysis provides you with practical knowledge of advanced instrumental techniques used in many areas of research and industry (Biotechnology, Biomedical Science, and Engineering). The unit Environmental Analytical Chemistry provides the you with knowledge and skills in environmental sampling, collection of data, and modern methods of environmental analysis (for Geology, Geoscience, Ecology and Civil Engineering).
