Course Structures

To meet the course requirements of the Bachelor of Science, you must complete a total of 288 credit points, made up of:

Core units - 60 credit points
A Major – 120 credit points
QUT You - 24 credit points
Complementary studies - 84 credit points, made up of:
- a second major (84 credit points), or
- a minor (48 credit points) and elective units (36 credit points).

MZB104 Quantitative Methods / MZB105 Introduction to Calculus

Unit selection guide
You have a choice between these two units. Here is the guidance on which of the units to select -

if you intend to undertake the Biological Sciences or Environmental Science major or Chemistry major, MZB104 is recommended for these majors
if you intend to undertake the Physics major, MZB105 is recommended for this major
if you intend to undertake the Climate Science or Earth Science major, you can choose either unit.

For students that have completed MXB100 or MZB125, or have MXB100 core to their primary major e.g. Chemistry, will need to select MZB104.

Industrial Chemistry Minor (v3 from 2024, continuing students only)

Study Area Description

This minor will equip students with a broad range of skills which industry requires in the Chemistry & Chemical Engineering fields. Through exposure to theory, practice and actual industrial site visits, the graduate will gain a deep appreciation of the relationship between chemical principles and the steps required to solve practical problems in their professional careers. The Industrial Chemistry minor includes a strong focus on bridging the gap between chemists and engineers which is an identified weakness for graduates from other institutions. The fact that we concomitantly expose graduates to scientific and business concepts is highly attractive to employers of Chemists in Queensland and worldwide. In addition, the coverage of cutting edge concepts and real world problems provides excellent opportunities to undertake research, prepare high-achieving graduates for post-graduate study and a research career.
