Course information
Bachelor of Urban Development (Honours) component
Students are required to complete 24 units of study (totalling 288 credit points), comprising:
- Core Urban Development units (totalling 72 credit points), including a Work Placement unit (12 credit point) and a Research Methods unit (12 credit points); and
- Urban and Regional Planning Major units (216 credit points), including a Capstone Project (24 credit points).
Bachelor of Science component
Students are required to complete 192 credit points comprising:
- Core Science units (totalling 60 credit points), including one Option unit (12 credit points) to be selected from a unit options list; and
- Environmental Science Major units (totalling 132 credit points), including one Major Elective unit (12 credit points).
Work integrated learning
You are required to undertake 30 days of approved urban and regional planning work experience as part of your Professional Practice core unit. More information available from the Work Integrated Learning (WIL) placements website.
Professional recognition
With the Urban and Regional Planning major, graduates are eligible for membership of the Planning Institute of Australia (PIA).
With the Environmental Science major, graduates are eligible for membership of the Environment Institute of Australia and New Zealand and a variety of other scientific societies, including the Soil Science Society of Australia and the Ecological Society of Australia.
Pathways to further study
The QUT Bachelor of Urban Development (Honours) is located at Level 8 of the Australian Qualifications Framework (AQF). Graduates may be eligible for discipline relevant Masters- and/or Doctoral-level programs.
The QUT Bachelor of Science is located at Level 7 of the Australian Qualifications Framework (AQF). Eligible graduates may continue their studies in these disciplines with an additional honours year in ST10 Bachelor of Science (Honours).
Study costs
Domestic students may need to pay the Student Services and Amenities Fee (SSAF).
Course Structures
For this course, you must complete a total of 480 credit points, made up of 288 credit points from the Bachelor of Urban Development (Honours) (Urban and Regional Planning) and 192 credit points from the Bachelor of Science (Environmental Science). You will study both science and urban development units in your first four years, and concentrate on urban development studies for the remainder of this course.
Bachelor of Urban Development (Honours) component
