Course information

The Master of Project Management is designed around a set of core project management topics that underpin the knowledge required for the more advanced discipline units. The course will provide you with the critical skills to apply advanced knowlege of contemporary project management research and practice and creatively solve complex project management problems. You will learn to communicate effectively within various social, cultural and professional contexts across and within stakeholder and discipline groups. You will demonstrate leadership, effective management and coordination of project teams and be able to work independently, ethically and collaboratively. Your skills and knowledge are developed though the advanced discipline and 'Project Investigation' units.

To meet the course requirements for the Master in Project Management you are required to complete 144 credit points comprising:

48 credit points of core foundation units in project management
72 credit points of advanced core units in project management including 36 credit point research component
a 24 credit point Minor or 24 credit points selected from Project Management General Unit Options

Pathways to further study

The QUT Master of Project Management is located at Level 9 of the Australian Qualifications Framework (AQF). Graduates may be eligible for discipline relevant Doctoral level studies.

Students admitted to a combined masters pathway (BN87 Master of Engineering Management + PM20 or EN50 Master of Engineering + PM20) may progress to their second degree on completion of the first, and are referred to the combined package study plan for their chosen combination, available on the course websites. Separate awards are granted for each degree completed.

Early exit

Early exit option with the Graduate Certificate of Project Management (PM15) degree on completion of the required four units.

Course completion

Combined Masters Package: Master of Engineering Management (BN87) and Master of Project Management (PM20)

Students wishing to complete the combined masters package will progress to the second degree (PM20) upon successful completion of the first degree (BN87). Students are required to select complementary study units (2 minor units) in PM20 that were not previously undertaken in BN87. Separate awards are granted for each degree completed.
