Enrolment Information
Progression options for your study plan:
Students commencing from 2026 have two progression options, both starting with the same first semester units.
You can choose the pathway that best suits your interests and goals:
Option 1: Common first year
This option allows you to complete a set of foundational core units in your first year before selecting your major. This is the ideal choice if you would like more time to explore your interests before committing to a specific area of study.
Option 2: Major starts in first year
In this option, you begin studying units from your chosen major in your first year. This progression option is suitable if you already know which major you would like to pursue and want to build expertise from the first year.
Regardless of your choice, both options are designed to support a smooth progression through your course.
SCB300 Professional Practice:
For Work Integrated Learning (WIL) opportunities, SCB300 Professional Practice unit is available for selection. Save an elective to ensure study plan scope (SCB300 is available for selection in the complementary studies - unit options). Please refer to the Faculty of Science – Student Information: Work Placement Canvas page for further information and pre-enrolment requirements.

Please note that students should allow a minimum of 3 semesters to complete a minor to account for semesters of offering and any pre-requisite requirements.
Important Enrolment Information:
- Any unit(s) that appear in a minor and are also mandatory elsewhere in your course can not contribute towards the completion of the minor.
- Any unit(s) that appear in multiple minors can only contribute towards the completion of one minor.
- Not all minors may be available in your course. Please check your course rules.
- Some units have been recoded, renamed or discontinued. These changes have been reflected in the lists of units available to continuing students.
Further information is located at: http://www.qut.edu.au/study/study-areas/language-courses
Rules for selecting Unit Options:
- you must obey any Unit Option rules as set out in your course requirements
- you cannot select a unit that forms part of the compulsory units of your course or the compulsory units of your chosen major area
- you must have successfully completed any applicable pre/co-requisite units
- the offering of these units is subject to sufficient student enrolment numbers and staff availability
- University-wide Elective unit lists can be viewed via your Study Plan in eStudent.
These unit offerings are current at the time of publication but are subject to change.
