Professional recognition
This program is ACS accredited, giving eligibility for ACS membership, recognition by ACS for certification and migration skills assessment, and international recognition by signatories of the Seoul Accord.
Early exit
With appropriate unit selection, students may be able to exit early with the IT10 Diploma in Information Technology.
Pathways to further study
The QUT Bachelor of Information Technology is located at Level 7 of the Australian Qualifications Framework (AQF). Eligible graduates may continue their studies in these disciplines with an additional honours year in the (IN10) Bachelor of Information Technology (Honours) or (IF80) Master of Philosophy course at QUT.

Course Structures
To meet the course requirements of the Bachelor of Information Technology, you must complete a total of 288 credit points.
For students commencing from 2026, the degree is arranged as follows:
- Core units - 108 credit points
- A Major - 72 credit points
- QUT You - 24 credit points
- Complementary studies - 84 credit points, made up of:
- a Second Major (72 credit points) and an elective (12 credit points), or
- a Minor (48 credit points) and electives (36 credit points).
For students who commenced the course in 2024 or 2025, the degree is arranged as follows:
- Core units - 96 credit points
- A Major – 84 credit points
- QUT You - 24 credit points
- Complementary studies - 84 credit points, made up of:
- a second major (84 credit points), or
- a minor (48 credit points) including new IT minors available in 2026; and elective units (36 credit points).
For students who commenced the course prior to 2024, the degree is arranged as follows:
- Core units - 72 credit points
- A Major – 120 credit points
- Complementary studies - 96 credit points, made up of:
- a second major (96 credit points), or
- two minors (48 credit points each) including new IT minors available in 2026, or
- one minor (48 credit points) including new IT minors available in 2026; and elective units (48 credit points).

SCB300 Professional Practice:
For Work Integrated Learning (WIL) opportunities, SCB300 Professional Practice unit is available for selection. Save an elective to ensure study plan scope (SCB300 is available for selection in the complementary studies - unit options; and in the core unit option space (for student who commenced the course prior to 2024)). There are two progression options, both starting with the same first semester units.
You can choose the pathway that best suits your interests and goals:
Option 1: Common first year
This option allows you to complete a set of foundational core units in your first year before selecting your major. This is the ideal choice if you would like more time to explore your interests before committing to a specific area of study.
Option 2: Major starts in first year
In this option, you begin studying units from your chosen major in your first year. This progression option is suitable if you already know which major you would like to pursue and want to build expertise from the first year.
Regardless of your choice, both options are designed to support a smooth progression through your course.
