Information Technology component: This course is accredited by the Australian Computer Society (ACS). ACS accreditation is internationally recognised by the Seoul Accord.

Course Structures

In order to complete this course, you must complete a total of 384 credit points comprising 180 credit points from the Bachelor of Creative Industries, 180 credit points from the Bachelor of Information Technology and 24 credit points of QUT You units. You will undertake the two components of the double degree concurrently.

Creative Industries component:

  • Bachelor of Creative Industries core units - 72 credit points
  • Creative Industries Complementary Studies Unit - 12 credit points selected from the Creative Industries introductory units list or the university wide elective unit list
  • A Creative Industries first major • 96 credit points from one of the specified first majors

Information Technology component:

  • Eight (8) Core units (96 credit points)
  • Seven (7) Major units (84 credit points): Computer Science or Information Systems 

QUT You component:

  • 24 credit points selected from the QUT You option units.

2024 commencing students

In order to complete this course, you must complete a total of 384 credit points comprising 192 credit points from the Bachelor of Creative Industries and 192 credit points from the Bachelor of Information Technology. You will undertake the two components of the double degree concurrently.

Creative Industries component:

  • Bachelor of Creative Industries major units • 72 credit points
  • Creative Industries introductory units • 24 credit points from specified introductory units.
  • A Creative Industries first major • 96 credit points from one of the specified first majors including Creative and Professional Writing; Media and Communication; • Drama and Performance; Fashion Communication; Interactive and Visual Design; Music and Sound; and, Screen Content Production.

Information Technology component:

  • Five (5) Core units (60 credit points)
  • One (1) Core option unit (12 credit points)

To complete this course, you must complete a total of 384 credit points, comprising 192 credit points from the Bachelor of Creative Industries and 192 credit points from the Bachelor of Information Technology. You will undertake the two components of the double degree concurrently.

Creative Industries component

The core of the program centres on Creative Enterprise studios that offer authentic, problem-based activities, coupled with Work Integrated Learning, skills in entrepreneurship and commercial links that engage in creative start-ups. Early in your degree, you choose 24 credit points of introductory units to experience your preferred majors, with the option to undertake defined breadth units in other relevant areas. Using this experience, you then decide upon a creative industries major.

You will complete:

  • Core units - 72 credit points
  • Creative Industries introductory units - 24 credit points
  • A Creative Industries major - 96 credit points from one of the specified  majors including Creative and Professional Writing; Media and Communication; Drama and Performance; Entertainment; Fashion Communication; Interactive and Visual Design; Music and Sound; and, Screen Content Production.

Course requirements

  • Majors can be selected from 'Creative Industries Major Options'.
  • You must complete a minimum of five (5) subjects from your Creative Industries Major prior to enrolling in your Work Integrated Learning units.

Information Technology component

You will complete:

  • Core units - 72 credit points (6 units)
  • A Information Technology major - 120 credit points (10 units) from one of the specified majors: Computer Science or Information Systems.

This major reflects the diversity of fashion careers, where communication is crucial to the development of the global fashion industry. The Fashion Communication major prepares you for current and future careers in the fields of Brand Communication, Product Development, Retail Management, Styling and Sustainable Supply Chain Management. Fashion Communication units cover history, theory and industry contexts of fashion from both practical and theoretical perspectives. Learning modules cover fashion image making, fashion aesthetics, fashion history and theory, fashion media, fashion supply chains and sustainable and ethical approaches to fashion product development and textiles. You will learn how fashion is communicated, marketed and distributed through industry channels and have the opportunity to develop practical skills in both the technical and expressive communication of fashion across a diverse range of industry contexts and media. Students undertaking the Music and Sound major will be involved in the creation of new music, by developing skills and understanding in the areas of musicianship, music technology and music concepts. The Music and Sound major provides a broad understanding of music in social, cultural and economic contexts. This study area is particularly suited to students who wish to combine studies in music with studies in other disciplines; who wish to work within the music industry in administrative, business or organisational roles; or who might require a second teaching area in a Masters of Teaching.

This is a strongly recommended course progression.
