Study costs
Domestic students may need to pay the Student Services and Amenities Fee (SSAF).
Blue card
You will need to apply for a blue card because you will be working with children or young people as part of this course. As required by the Commission for Children and Young People and Child Guardian Act (2000), students must undergo a criminal history check and be issued with a blue card by the Commission prior to undertaking field experience in a school or centre or any activities in units which may involve contact with children. More information and an application form the Blue cards page.
Work integrated learning
Human Services component: Students will be required to undertake placements off campus and will need to cover travel and accommodation costs.
Creative Industries component: This program allows you to participate in off-campus work placement opportunities. Access more information from the Work Integrated Learning (WIL) placements website.
Designated units
SWB201 Human Services Practice Placement 1 and SWB314 Human Services Practice Placement 2 are designated units. Designated units include professional experience units, units requiring the development of particular skills, and units requiring demonstration of certain personal qualities, and are deemed to be critical to progress in your course. Students who receive two fail grades in a designated unit will receive an unsatisfactory academic performance notice and could be excluded from the course. Supplementary assessment is not available on designated units.
Study overseas
Study overseas while gaining credit towards your QUT degree with one of our worldwide exchange partners. Overseas study can be for one or two semesters (or during the semester break) and the units you take can be in either degree area, depending on how they match with your QUT course. Early exit
With appropriate unit selection, you may be able to exit early with either component single degree.
Pathways to further study
On successful completion of this course, you will be eligible to apply for entry into the Master of Teaching (Secondary) or Master of Philosophy, provided you meet the entry requirements.
Professional recognition
Graduates are eligible for membership of the Australian Community Workers Association (ACWA).
Course Structures
In order to complete this course, you must complete a total of 384 credit points comprising 180 credit points from the Bachelor of Creative Industries and 192 credit points from the Bachelor of Human Services and 12 credit points of QUT You. You will undertake the two components of the double degree concurrently.
Creative Industries component:
- Bachelor of Creative Industries major units - 72 credit points
- Complementary Studies unit - 12 credit points from the Creative Industries introductory units list or the university wide unit elective list
- A Creative Industries first major - 96 credit points from one of the specified first majors.
Human Services component:
You will complete 120 credit points of core human services units, 48 credit points of professional practice studies and 24 credit points of human services elective studies.
QUT You component:
- 12 credit points selected from the QUT You option units.
2024 and prior commencing students
In order to complete this course, you must complete a total of 384 credit points comprising 192 credit points from the Bachelor of Creative Industries and 192 credit points from the Bachelor of Human Services. You will undertake the two components of the double degree concurrently.
Creative Industries component:
- Bachelor of Creative Industries major units - 72 credit points
- Creative Industries introductory units - 24 credit points from specified introductory units.
- A Creative Industries first major - 96 credit points from one of the specified first majors including Creative and Professional Writing; Media and Communication; Drama and Performance; Fashion Communication; Interactive and Visual Design; Music and Sound; and, Screen Content Production.
Human Services component
You will complete 108 credit points of core human services units, 48 credit points of professional practice studies and 36 credit points of human services elective studies.

Students undertaking the Music and Sound major will be involved in the creation of new music, by developing skills and understanding in the areas of musicianship, music technology and music concepts. The Music and Sound major provides a broad understanding of music in social, cultural and economic contexts. This study area is particularly suited to students who wish to combine studies in music with studies in other disciplines; who wish to work within the music industry in administrative, business or organisational roles; or who might require a second teaching area in a Masters of Teaching.
