Overview
As a graduate of the Bachelor of Engineering (Honours) / Master of Project Management, you will have a solid foundation in Engineering from your undergraduate studies and project management knowledge and skills through the Master program. You will be a professional engineer able to design and problem solve for complex challenges that bring together materials, processes, systems, and technologies to meet the needs of stakeholders and take account of the social, cultural and organisational contexts in which you operate. You will be skilled in various project management tools and techniques, with advanced discipline knowledge to lead and project manage large and complex projects in diverse work settings and will apply your skills to create innovative solutions to engineering and project management challenges.
A vertical degree means you will graduate with a bachelor degree and master degree within five years, fast-tracking your ability to lead engineering projects.
Work integrated learning
Work Integrated Learning (WIL) is part of the curriculum and is a core component for all engineering students.
WIL allows you to graduate with a portfolio of professional skills that provides evidence of your professional competencies. As part of the course requirements, you need to undertake 60 days of approved work experience in an engineering environment under the supervision of a Professional Engineer. Please start planning your WIL in your second year of studies. After achieving 192 credit points in your undergraduate degree, you are eligible for an engineering related placement. For questions or assistance, please contact the Faculty of Engineering WIL team at engineering.wil@qut.edu.au.
Professional recognition
This course has professional accreditation from Engineers Australia (EA). EA is a signatory to the Washington Accord, which permits graduates to work in various countries across the world. This course is recognised internationally in the engineering profession, giving QUT graduates more career opportunities overseas. Full professional accreditation from Engineers Australia has been given for this course.
Our Master of Project Management is accredited by the Project Management Institute (PMI) and endorsed by the Australian Institute of Project Management (AIPM).
Study areas
Your degree begins with a Bachelor of Engineering (Honours) at QUT. You will choose from three majors:
- Bachelor of Engineering (Honours) (Civil)
- Bachelor of Engineering (Honours) (Electrical)
- Bachelor of Engineering (Honours) (Mechanical)
In your fifth year, you will complete the Master of Project Management, allowing you to graduate with two degrees in five years.
QUT You
QUT You provides interdisciplinary experiences that enhance critical and creative thinking, self-awareness, and digital skills, preparing students to create positive societal change.
You are required to complete QUT You units in your course – find out more about QUT You.
Course information
Course updates and changes to units and study areas may affect enrolment requirements. If your study plan is affected, it will be updated accordingly. For questions or assistance, please contact the Faculty of Engineering at engineering@qut.edu.au.
To complete your degree within the standard timeframe (5 years for full-time or 10 years for part-time), it is recommended to follow the provided study plan as not all units are offered every semester. This will ensure that you satisfy all prerequisites where applicable.
Pathways to further study
Australian Qualifications Framework (AQF): This vertical degree includes an AQF Level 8 Bachelor of Engineering (Honours) and an AQF Level 9 Master of Project Management. Graduates may be eligible for discipline-relevant doctoral-level programs.
Study costs
Domestic students may need to pay the Student Services and Amenities Fee (SSAF).
Course Structures
To successfully complete this vertical degree, students are required to complete 480 credit points comprised of 384 credit points from the Bachelor of Engineering (Honours), and 96 credit points from the Master of Project Management.
