Overview
As a graduate from the Bachelor of Engineering (Honours)/Master of Advanced Manufacturing you will emerge with advanced cutting-edge knowledge and skills in digital and robotic manufacturing or bioprocess engineering, specialising in one of these areas, while gaining the experience required to interface with other advanced manufacturing professionals.
A vertical degree means you will graduate with a bachelor degree and master degree within five years, accelerating your ability to design, optimise and lead manufacturing advances, no matter the scale.
Work integrated learning
Work Integrated Learning (WIL) is embedded in the curriculum, and is a core component for all engineering students.
WIL allows you to graduate with a portfolio of professional skills that provides evidence of your professional competencies. As part of the course requirements, you need to undertake 60 days of approved work experience in an engineering environment under the supervision of a Professional Engineer. Please start planning your WIL in your second year of studies. After achieving 192 credit points in your single degree, you are eligible for an engineering related placement. For questions or assistance, please contact the Faculty of Engineering WIL team at engineering.wil@qut.edu.au.
Professional recognition
This course has professional accreditation from Engineers Australia (EA). EA is a signatory to the Washington Accord, which permits graduates to work in various countries across the world. This course is recognised internationally in the engineering profession, giving QUT graduates more career opportunities overseas. Full professional accreditation from Engineers Australia has been given for this course.
Study areas
Your degree begins with a Bachelor of Engineering (Honours) at QUT. You will choose from three majors:
· Bachelor of Engineering (Honours) (Chemical and Sustainable Process)
· Bachelor of Engineering (Honours) (Mechanical)
· Bachelor of Engineering (Honours) (Medical)
In your fifth year, you will complete the Master of Advanced Manufacturing, allowing you to graduate with two degrees in 5 years.
QUT You
QUT You provides interdisciplinary experiences that enhance critical and creative thinking, self-awareness, and digital skills, preparing students to create positive societal change.
You are required to complete QUT You units in your course – find out more about QUT You.
Course information
Course updates and changes to units and study areas may affect enrolment requirements. If your study plan is affected, it will be updated accordingly. For questions or assistance, please contact the Faculty of Engineering at engineering@qut.edu.au.
To complete your degree within the standard timeframe (5 years for full-time or 10 years for part-time), it is recommended to follow the provided study plan as not all units are offered every semester. This will ensure that you satisfy all prerequisites where applicable.
Pathways to further study
Australian Qualifications Framework (AQF): This vertical degree includes an AQF Level 8 Bachelor of Engineering (Honours) and an AQF Level 9 Master of Advanced Manufacturing. Graduates may be eligible for discipline-relevant doctoral-level programs.
Study costs
Domestic students may need to pay the Student Services and Amenities Fee (SSAF).
Course Structures
To complete this integrated degree, you must complete a total of 480 credit points comprising 384 credit points from the Bachelor of Engineering (Honours) and 96 credit points from the Master of Advanced Manufacturing. This integrated vertical degree includes 48 credit points of advanced level study (shared units) undertaken in the fourth and fifth year.

Study area description
Electrical engineers work with electrical energy in all its forms: from tiny electrons or microchips to large-scale electrical power generators. In addition to designing new products, electrical engineers construct, operate, and maintain a variety of electrical systems and equipment. Electrical and electronic engineers can specialise in different areas such as power generation, transmission and distribution; communications and electrical equipment manufacturing, or a specialty within one of these areas such as aviation electronics, satellite communications or industrial robotics. Many electrical and electronics engineers also work in areas closely related to computers. Electrical Engineers often work together with senior administrators, civil and mechanical engineers, computer scientists or other professionals in the business, building and construction industries.

Mechanical engineering turns energy into power and motion. Mechanical engineers design, create, improve and maintain systems and machinery that are used for private and commercial purposes. They keep pace with technology and act as an interface between technology and society, playing an essential role contributing to the sustainability of the environment and future development of industry. Mechanical engineering interlinks closely with other areas of engineering and applies knowledge of materials, energy and structures.
