Guidelines for enrolment

Enrolment is undertaken on your Study Plan in HiQ. Read the information under the Course Structure tab, note your important enrolment key dates, then access your Study Plan to enrol.

Some units are offered in the 5TP4, 5TP6, 5TP8, 6TP1, 6TP2, 6TP3, 6TP4, 6TP5, FP01A, FP07A teaching periods and are subject to different key dates to units offered in Semesters 1 and 2. All teaching period dates can be found on the QUT Academic Calendar.

You have 4 years to complete the Master of Education, including any approved leave of absence. If you need to take a break from your studies, you must apply for a leave of absence. If you defer your course, or are withdrawn from the course without an approved leave of absence, and subsequently apply for re-admission, you will be required to satisfy all course entry requirements, including any additional entry requirements in operation at the time of your readmission.

Course structures

You will complete a total of 144 credit points of study.

Choose either:

  • Two 48 credit point specialisations, or
  • One 48 credit point specialisation AND 48 credit points of options, or
  • 96 credit points of options

Select from these specialisations or choose option units to build a qualification to suit your needs:

  • Early Childhood
  • Educational Leadership
  • First Nations Education Practice
  • Inclusive Education
  • STEM in Education
  • TESOL
  • Trauma-Aware Education

You will also complete 36 credit points of research units and 12 credit points of advanced level option units.

It is recommended that international students who are non-student visa holders or are studying from their home country do not enrol in the First Nations Education Practice Specialisation.

You can only commence the Trauma-Aware Education Specialisation in Semester 1.

Advanced standing (credit)

Advanced standing limits for Master of Education units are 10 years.

If you have an Australian Qualifications Framework (AQF) Level 8 qualification in the field of education (honours degree, graduate certificate, graduate diploma or higher), or a completed recognised bachelor degree in the field of education plus a minimum of 2 years full-time (or equivalent) relevant work experience in Education you can be awarded advanced standing for up to 48 credit points of option units.

Professional recognition

The Master of Education does not lead to teacher registration. Please refer to the Master of Teaching (Early Childhood)Master of Teaching (Primary) or the Master of Teaching (Secondary) if you are seeking teacher registration.

Study costs

Domestic students may need to pay the Student Services and Amenities Fee (SSAF).
