Guidelines for enrolment

Enrolment is undertaken on your Study Plan in HiQ. Read the information under the Course Structure tab, note your important enrolment key dates, then access your Study Plan to enrol.

Some units are offered in the 5TP4, 5TP6, 5TP8, 6TP1, 6TP2, 6TP3, 6TP4, 6TP5, FP01A, FP07A teaching periods and are subject to different key dates to units offered in Semesters 1 and 2. All teaching period dates can be found on the QUT Academic Calendar.

You have 4 years to complete the Master of Education, including any approved leave of absence. If you need to take a break from your studies, you must apply for a leave of absence. If you defer your course, or are withdrawn from the course without an approved leave of absence, and subsequently apply for re-admission, you will be required to satisfy all course entry requirements, including any additional entry requirements in operation at the time of your readmission.

Advanced standing (credit)

On entry, students can receive an automatic 48 credit points (4 units) based on a completed Australian Qualification Framework (AQF) level 8 or higher qualification in Education (an Honours year with a research component, graduate certificate, graduate diploma or higher), regardless of the age of the qualification. You do not need to apply for this auto-credit, just supply a copy of your degree and transcripts with your PG Application Form. No advanced standing can be granted for undergraduate study.

Alternatively, depending on your study area structure, students can receive up to 50% advanced standing from Masters or higher study completed in another program. Prior study must be current. Study over 10 years old is not normally considered. If you are applying for advanced standing for specific units, you will need to provide detailed unit/subject outlines from your previous study. These outlines must include learning outcomes, learning content, and assessment including word lengths.

You can also apply for advanced standing based on work or industry experience. Advanced standing is not able to be awarded for normal teaching experience. If you are responsible for an original academic work, such as creating a course and/or curriculum, or have published any original research etc. then you may be eligible for advanced standing for work or industry experience. The original academic work must be in excess of 5000 words.

See more on Advanced Standing.
