Professional recognition
This course has professional accreditation from Engineers Australia (EA). EA is a signatory to the Washington Accord, which permits graduates to work in various countries across the world. This course is recognised internationally in the engineering profession, giving QUT graduates more career opportunities overseas. Full professional accreditation from Engineers Australia has been given for this course.
Work integrated learning
Work Integrated Learning (WIL) is embedded in the curriculum, and is a core component for all engineering students.
WIL allows you to graduate with a portfolio of professional skills that provides evidence of your professional competencies. As part of the course requirements, you need to undertake 60 days of approved work experience in an engineering environment under the supervision of a Professional Civil Engineer. Please start planning your WIL in your third year of studies. After achieving 288 credit points in your double degree, you are eligible for an engineering related placement. For questions or assistance, please contact the Faculty of Engineering WIL team at engineering.wil@qut.edu.au.
QUT You
QUT You provides interdisciplinary experiences that enhance critical and creative thinking, self-awareness, and digital skills, preparing students to create positive societal change.
You are required to complete QUT You units in your course – find out more about QUT You.
Course information
Course updates and changes to units and study areas may affect enrolment requirements. If your study plan is affected, it will be updated accordingly. For related questions or assistance related to your degree, please contact the Faculty of Engineering: engineering@qut.edu.au
To complete your double degree within the standard timeframe (6 years for full-time), it is recommended to follow the provided study plan as not all units are offered every semester. This will ensure that you satisfy all prerequisites where applicable.
Study costs
Domestic students may need to pay the Student Services and Amenities Fee (SSAF).
Course Structures
The standard progression for this course is currently 6 years (576 credit points). Following new accreditation guidelines from Engineers Australia, we can now remove the requirement for an engineering minor, and this reduces the course to 5.5 years (528 credit points).
To complete the double degree in 5.5 years:
- Successfully complete 4 units each semester and follow the recommended course structure (below);
- Do not enrol in any units within the Engineering minor;
The new course EB07 Bachelor of Architectural Design/Bachelor of Engineering (Honours) (Civil Engineering) has been fully approved by QUT and will reflect the new course structure minus the Engineering minor. The transition to the new degree administrative code from EB05 to EB07 will take place after semester 2, 2025.

Study area description
Electrical engineers work with electrical energy in all its forms: from tiny electrons or microchips to large-scale electrical power generators. In addition to designing new products, electrical engineers construct, operate, and maintain a variety of electrical systems and equipment. Electrical and electronic engineers can specialise in different areas such as power generation, transmission and distribution; communications and electrical equipment manufacturing, or a specialty within one of these areas such as aviation electronics, satellite communications or industrial robotics. Many electrical and electronics engineers also work in areas closely related to computers. Electrical Engineers often work together with senior administrators, civil and mechanical engineers, computer scientists or other professionals in the business, building and construction industries.

Study area description
Mechanical engineering turns energy into power and motion. Mechanical engineers design, create, improve and maintain systems and machinery that are used for private and commercial purposes. They keep pace with technology and act as an interface between technology and society, playing an essential role contributing to the sustainability of the environment and future development of industry. Mechanical engineering interlinks closely with other areas of engineering and applies knowledge of materials, energy and structures.
